CyanogenMod developer slams Exynos phones for lack of proper support

Users may find the performance of Samsung’s Exynos processors exhilarating, but it seems the developers who work on custom ROMs for these devices don’t share the same enthusiasm.

Responding to a query on xda-developers forum, CyanogenMod developer who goes by the forum ID ‘codeworkx’ explained why he and other developers think that Exynos processors are bad for developers. It essentially boils down to lack of proper support from Samsung in terms of providing sources or documentation for their processors and when they do it’s either outdated or incompatible. Motorola joins the club of Apple’s map service critics, claims your iPhone 5 will get you lost

This should hardly catch you by surprise, given that the company is under Google ownership. Motorola has followed Nokia’s example, and released an ad, which pokes fun at Apple’s far from perfect Maps service.

The ad, released by Motorola in Twitter and Google+ put the Apple iPhone 5 next to the company’s latest DROID RAZR M. Both devices have the same search query entered with Apple’s handset returning a rather questionable result. Read more »

Samsung ATIV TAB priced, costs more than we hoped it would

The Samsung Ativ Tab is the company’s first Windows 8 RT tablet and judging by the feedback our preview got, you guys really liked it. However, as with every other device, its success would depend on its pricing, and that was until now a mystery.

Well, not any more as a Slovenian online retailer has put up a page dedicated to the Samsung Ativ Tab, complete with pricing info. The 32GB version of the Samsung Ativ Tab is listed with a price tag of €650. Ouch. Read more »

Apple Maps are taking hits left, right and center lately. Just about everyone had something to say about the product Apple selected to replace Google Maps in iOS, but this last attack comes from the most unexpected of places.

Despite its great look, the Apple Maps app -which replaced Google Maps in iOS 6 – has been subject to some heavy criticism over the past few days. The incomplete coverage and numerous inaccuracies made most users miss the iOS 5 days, when they could actually go places.

$100,000 worth of iPhone 5 units stolen in Japan just before launch

Wait in line for the iPhone 5, exposed to the elements? Wait 3-4 weeks for your pre-order to go through? Nah, someone is Japan decided to go Gone in 60 seconds. Three stores that were going to sell Apple’s latest smartphone in the same night were hit and all but two of their handsets went missing.

The total damage is estimated at 7.45 million yen, nearly $100,000. That sounds like a lot, but it’s only 191 iPhone 5 units that are gone. Here’s what happened. Read more »

The iPhone 5 gets a teardown, reveals goblin-made screws and unicorn blood battery (not really)

Looks like someone managed to get their hands on an iPhone 5 ahead of the launch date and as any normal person would do with a brand new super expensive device, chose to open it up and expose its insides to the Internet.

Nokia takes a jab at the competition, claims to have the best location services in the business

Hot on the heels of the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 launch, Nokia has also taken the fight to the competition in the location based services field. The Finnish company has released a table, comparing its own Maps application to the likes of Google Maps and Apple’s own brand new Maps service.

WP8 concept smartphone looks super cool, does a funny thing to the Windows button

Design is the one of the areas where we feel WP smartphones do pretty well. The Nokia Lumia 800 and 900 were considered by many (us included) as two of the best-looking handsets the industry has seen and virtually all of the recently announced WP8 handsets look equally as impressive.

Yet when we saw the latest concept design posted on Yanko Design, we just fell in love with it. Inspired by the Windows Phone UI, the colorful handset is not only a great looker, but also really different from anything we have seen so far. Read more »

T-Mobile gives Samsung Galaxy S III users The Avengers movie for free

T-Mobile might not have an LTE network for the Galaxy S III to enjoy, but the carrier continues to throw free bonuses at those who purchased the Samsung flagship on its network.

The latest gift is a free copy of The Avengers, which will be made available through the Samsung Media Hub starting September 25. The copy will naturally be DRM-protected, but you will still be able to stream it through DLNA or MHL. Read more »
