Hot on the heels of Facebook’s mobile app update, Twitter updated its native mobile apps for iOS and Android, too. The changes concern mostly search and Discover on the mobile platforms.

Discover is Twitter’s auto-generated stream of tweets, suited to your interests and generally coming from outside your regular network. The latest developments to Discover are now available to the mobile apps with “a completely re-done the back-end and user interface”. Read more »

We’ve all heard the rumors that Google is working on a native third-party version of Google Maps for iOS 6.x devices. It seems there has been lots of substance to these rumors, as reportedly, the app has already been distributed for testing to interested parties outside Google’s labs.

According to “a person with direct knowledge of the matter”, who spoke to Wall Street Journal, Google is already putting the finishing touches on the app and should be ready to submit it for approval to the Apple’s AppStore sooner rather than later. Read more »

Hot on the heels of the mobile Facebook website update, the latest new features arrive to the native Facebook apps for iOS and Android. The two biggest new changes include the option to re-share stories from your news feed and the ability to tag people in status updates, comments and photos.

Just as promised, Madfinger Games (Shawdowgun, Dead Trigger) released the Shadowgun DeadZone game into the Google’s Play Store.

It’s been over two months since the Amazon event on September 6, where they announced their new range of Kindle and Kindle Fire devices. The Kindle Fire HD, in particular, was not supposed to ship till November, even though it went on pre-order pretty much instantly.

Well, that day has come and if you are one of those who ordered a Kindle Fire HD you should be glad to know that Amazon has started shipping the tablet. Unfortunately, if you order now, you will have to wait another month before you can get it due to backorder. Read more »

Hot on the heels of the leaked firmware for the Galaxy S III, the upcoming Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean ROM from Samsung for the Galaxy S II has also been leaked. The ROM is said to be very stable, which indicates it was in its final stages and that Samsung would probably start rolling it out soon.

Being a Jelly Bean ROM, it brings with it the usual Jelly Bean features, such as Project Butter and Google Now. You will also notice that the TouchWiz interface on the S II has been updated and is now identical to the one on the Galaxy S III and the Note II, down to the bloop bloop sound when you touch the screen. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been enjoying Jelly Bean for some time now. But a handful of features that we first saw on the Galaxy Note 2 have been out of reach so far.

The split-screen view mode, for instance, allows big-screen smartphones with plenty of oomph to display too apps at the same time. Today’s good news is that you can now get this and other new features on your Galaxy S3 via a pre-release official firmware.

There’s been a worrying trend of smartphones and tablets having very little on-board storage and no memory card slots, so this comes as a bit of good news – Samsung has already started production of new embedded memory chips for mobile devices with 64GB capacity.

The chips are built on a 10nm process and are 20% smaller than current chips, while offering 30% better performance compared to Samsung’s older models (“older” here means from five months ago). Read more »

Rockstar has released a new trailer for the upcoming GTA V. The video does not feature any gameplay sequences but gives a look at the general setting of the game.

GTA V will take place in the fictional location called Los Santos in San Andreas. It will be Rockstar’s biggest open world game yet and feature three new protagonists, all of whom will be playable. The three characters have different stories that intertwine as the game progress and eventually you will be switching between the characters as they work together to accomplish a single goal. Sony has released a new ad campaign for its NEX range of cameras that mocks DSLR users. But not just any DSLR users, clueless DSLR users in particular.

The ads basically concentrate on DSLR users who carry a ton of equipment around for their cameras and don’t know the first thing about how to use them. Most of the situations shown in the video are places where a simple point and shoot camera would be more appropriate but the people are seen carrying around complicated DSLR rigs that are more trouble than worth. A couple of days ago we reported on the news that Samsung’s chip making division had increased the prices of the processors that it supplies to Apple for use in their iOS devices by as much as 20%. Turns out, that wasn’t true at all.

According to an unnamed Samsung official who spoke to the Korean newspaper The Hankyoreh, Samsung has not increased the prices of the processors. He also said that prices are agreed upon at the beginning of each year and aren’t changed easily. Read more »
