Sony will likely stream ‘The Interview’ on YouTube and Google Play (updated)

Apart from showing the highly controversial ‘The Interview’ in 300-odd cinemas around the US on Christmas Day, Sony may also be be streaming the movie on YouTube, among other services.

Sony makes a U-turn, says The Interview will be released on Christmas day

Nearly a week after Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) canceled The Interview’s planned theatrical release after hackers threatened to attack theaters showing it, the studio has said that the Seth Rogen comedy will be released on Christmas Day.

“We are proud to make it available to the public and to have stood up to those who attempted to suppress free speech,” said SPE Chief Executive Michael Lynton, adding that the company never gave up on releasing the film, rather it was working to secure other platforms and more cinemas “so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience.” Read more »

Stickered for Messenger now on iOS

Facebook recently launched a new app called Stickered for Messenger, which allowed you to take pictures or use existing ones and then place Facebook Messenger stickers on top of them, before sharing them with others.

PlayStation game streaming coming to Samsung Smart TVs in 2015

Samsung Smart TV owners will soon be able to stream PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 games on to their televisions in 2015. Sony has announced that the PlayStation Now game streaming service is coming to Samsung’s televisions.

To play these games, you will need the Sony PlayStation Now app installed on your Samsung Smart TV and the games will be streamed to you from the cloud. Samsung 4GB mobile DRAM goes into mass production, 4GB RAM smartphones incoming

Samsung has commenced the mass production of its 20nm 4GB LPDDR4 mobile DRAM memory chips. Because of the 20nm manufacturing process, the new mobile LPDDR4 chips are reportedly 50% faster than the fastest LPDDR3 memory on the market, while also consuming 40% less power at 1.1 volts.

The 4GB RAM chips will be ready to debut in smartphones and tablets in early 2015. The chances of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 rocking 4GB of RAM is quite high. Read more »

Uber’s regulatory woes continue as the ride-sharing service faces ban in Taiwan, fines in China

Just a few days after it entered into a partnership with China-based search engine Baidu, Uber has come under the scanner of the authorities in Chongqing. The Chinese city which is home to more than 30 million people, is concerned that its drivers are not appropriately licensed.

According to a Reuters report, the Chongqing government is currently investigating the legality of the ride-sharing startup’s business model, with officials saying that private drivers operating without a commercial license would be classified as “illegal behavior,” and a fine of 30,000 yuan ($4,820) to 100,000 yuan ($16,070) would be imposed on them. Google’s self driving car prototype ready for on-road testing

Google showed us an early prototype of its self driving car back in May. This was different from the self driving cars we had seen from the company before that, which were basically regular vehicles like the Toyota Prius with heavy modifications to make them drive themselves. This was something that was designed from the ground up for this purpose.

Since then Google has been working on refining the prototype and all its components and it’s now ready for road testing. The company will be testing the car on its test track during this holiday season and will begin road testing in Northern California in early next year. Read more »
