Apple TV rumors have been flying around the Internet for some time now, but most of them were based either on wishlists or on blind speculations.

This one, however, seems more on terms with reality, as Technobuffalo claims it has spoken with a “high-ranking source with a major electronics retailer”. He says that we should expect to see to see an Apple TV in flesh around April or May “at the latest”. Read more »

Yesterday, 22 European countries ratified a little something called the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement in Japan. The list includes Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

They joined Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and, of course, the United States, all of which had signed it October 1, last year.

The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement or ACTA, as it’s more commonly called, doesn’t sound like much at first glance, but when you start reading into it and it won’t be long before you realize that it’s actually worse than the infamous US-only SOPA and PIPA put together.

Hidden behind the “Trade Agreement” part of its name, this international treaty has the potential to change the way we use the Internet forever. Samsung has releasing report of its Q4, 2011 earnings and the numbers are very impressive. For starters, the company earned 47.3 trillion Korean won (US$42 billion) in revenue and 5.3 trillion Korean won (US$ 4.7 billion) in profits.

Samsung’s mobile division saw a strong growth of 54 percent compared to last year, helped no doubt by the popular Galaxy S II, with 17.8 trillion Korean won (US$15.2 billion) coming from it. Unfortunately, Samsung hasn’t released sales figures so we have no idea about, say, the number of smartphones sold in the last quarter. Read more »

Both Intel and Microsoft released today their fiscal results for the 2011 and the last quarter of 2011 respectively. Not surprisingly though, both companies report record earnings.

For Q4 of last year Intel reported $13.9 billion in revenues, which brings the total for 2011 to $54 billion. This is a whopping $10 billion more (or 24%) than what the company managed to achieve in 2010. Read more »

Google reported its fiscal results for the last 2011 quarter and for the year 2011 as a whole. The Q4 results were a record for the search giant, with revenue topping the $10 billion milestone for the first time.

CEO Larry Page was also proud with their social network, Google Plus. It reached 90 million users, more than double the 40 million users reported in October. This also puts them on track to reach the predicted 100 million by the end of February (a prediction that sees Google Plus reaching 400 million users by the end of 2012). Read more »

U.S. Justice department has shut down popular sharing website Megaupload and its founder, Kim Schmitz, has been arrested by the FBI in New Zealand, where he’s been living.

As a way to fight back and revenge, hacker’s group Anonymous has been messing around with U.S. government and major record label websites such as those of the FBI, MPAA, RIAA, EMI and many more.

Earlier today, the Department of Justice also arrested three more company executives – Megaupload’s CMO Fin Batato and CTO Mathias Ortmannand, both from Germany and Bram van der Kolk living in New Zealand. Read more »

Following a recent survey commissioned by the British Psychological Society, it seems that smartphone use can directly influence your stress levels.

100 Britons from different occupations underwent a psychometric stress test and were quizzed on the interactions they had with their smartphones throughout the day. The results eluded to the fact that stress levels become elevated based on the number of times a person checked for emails and texts. Read more »

Jerry Yang, Yahoo’s co-founder and former CEO, resigned on Tuesday to pursuit interests outside Yahoo!.

This comes as a bit of a shock from Yang, who co-founded Yahoo! in 1995 with David Filo and managed the company as a CEO from June 2007 to January 2009, when he was forced to step down after saying “No” to Microsoft’s acquisition offer. Read more »
