Toshiba has announced the launch of WT310 tablet, designed exclusively for business users. The slate comes with a wide range of features, which include the DigitizerPen that converts handwritten notes into editable text.

Following yesterday’s IDC analysis report for tablet shipments in the first quarter of the year, DigiTimes reckons that combined Apple and Samsung will ship close to a total of 110 million slates in 2013.

The news comes from a Taiwan-based TFT-LCD panel maker, who has received a massive order from both companies, as well as smaller Chinese manufacturers, who sell the “white box” Android tablets (the cheaper, low-margin ones). Read more »

A number of Tegra 4 powered devices were discovered in AnTuTu benchmark results, including a Toshiba tablet. Now we’re getting a better look of that tablet thanks to photos sent to Techblog.gr.

The tablet runs Android 4.2.1 and is powered by four Cortex-A15 CPU cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The Tegra 4 chipset also packs a fifth power-saver core. Read more »

Barnes & Noble have announced that they will be adding support for the Google Play Store on their NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ Android tablets. So far these devices have been restricted to downloading content only from Barnes & Noble’s content store but are now open to the entire Google catalog as well.

Along with the 700,000 apps and games, NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ users will also be able to access music, movies, books and magazines from the Play Store. Other than that, Barnes & Noble is also adding the Google Chrome browser and Google services such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube and Google Search. Read more »

Microsoft is rumored to launch its next generation Surface tablets at its Build Developer Conference, which will kick start on June 26.

According to the upstream supply chain sources, the company already has about 1-1.5 million Intel based units in its inventory and the components are said to be supplied from the end of 2012. Read more »

According to a preliminary data from the IDC, the tablet market is set to skyrocket in 2013 with a very promising first quarter. The data is still preliminary, but IDC expects to see a 142% jump in tablet shipments this quarter with a total of 49.2 million units shipped – more than all of 2012′s first half.

Apple continues to be at the top of the tablet sales chart for Q1 2013, managing to ship 19.5 million units, which secured it a 39.6% tablet market share. Year-over-year growth for the company is impressive as well at 65.3%, but not nearly as impressive as the rest of the tablet manufacturers. Read more »

It looks like both HP and Toshiba are working on devices powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 chipset. HP has two – a tablet and an All-in-One computer – and Toshiba has at least one tablet (that we know of). The trio was discovered in AnTuTu benchmarks.

The HP tablet is called HP SlateBook 10 X2 and packs a 10” screen with FullHD resolution. It ran Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean at the time of benchmarking. Read more »

This is strictly in unconfirmed rumors territory, but we’re hearing a lot about Samsung’s tablet plans in 2013. The company already delivered the Galaxy Note 8.0 and Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 and seems intent on following up with Galaxy Tab DUOS 7.0, Galaxy Tab 8.0, Galaxy Tab 11, Nexus 11 and finally (maybe) the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1.

An as of yet unknown tablet from Asus, the Eeepad ME302C has surfaced on the GLBenchmark website, revealing yet another variant of Asus’ successful Android based tablet.

Even though it came last to the party, Windows 8 is already starting to make an impact. 3 million tablets powered by the Microsoft OS have shipped in the past quarter, capturing 7.5% of the slate market.

The information comes from a report by research company Strategy Analytics who suggest that the number could be even higher had Microsoft expanded the availability of its Surface lineup quicker. Read more »

We have been hearing rumors about upcoming 7/8-inch Windows 8 tablets, with Microsoft itself said to be working on one. This leaked Acer tablet, however, is the first to confirm that rumor.

What you see above is the Acer Iconia W3-810, a 7-inch tablet running Windows 8. As you can see the device has been optimized for use in portrait mode, with the Windows button placed near the narrow edge. LG Display is estimated to receive some 30% of its business from tech giant Apple, and has recorded its weakest profit since Q2 of last year.

That’s why when the division posted its rather poor Q1 results, analysts suspected that the lower orders from the Cupertino giant it to blame. Many saw the slowing demand for Apple’s iPhone’s and iPad’s as the main reason for the shrinking profits. Read more »

Google Play has updated its guidelines for tablet applications and the developers can now show off their tablet apps in a more beautiful and specialized tablet layouts.

The latest update allows the tablet app developers to upload screenshots of their applications running on 7-inch and 10-inch tablets to the Google Play developer console and those screenshots are shown to users with the devices of the respective size. Read more »
