Combined Apple and Samsung expected to ship 110 million tablets for 2013, Chinese makers to follow close by

Following yesterday’s IDC analysis report for tablet shipments in the first quarter of the year, DigiTimes reckons that combined Apple and Samsung will ship close to a total of 110 million slates in 2013.

The news comes from a Taiwan-based TFT-LCD panel maker, who has received a massive order from both companies, as well as smaller Chinese manufacturers, who sell the “white box” Android tablets (the cheaper, low-margin ones). Again, based on placed panel orders, other tablet vendors such as ASUS, Microsoft, Sony and BlackBerry are expected to ship a combined 50 million tablets during the year.

Comparably, Chinese manufacturers are doing much, much better with their cheaper alternatives, judging by the report from the Taiwanese TFT-LCD panel manufacturer, as they are expected to ship as many as 100 million white-box units.

As you’d imagine, such surge in panel orders is hardly possible for a single company to manufacture. Other LCD manufacturers such as AU Optronics (AUO), Innolux Corporation and Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) are expected to also profit from the surge in the tablet market.
