The Google I/O keynote is going at full swing and we’ve got new announcements coming in every minute. The company confirmed that the first two watches that were announced alongside the Android Wear debut in March, the Motorola Moto 360 and the LG G Watch, will be water resistant.
The water resistance is certainly very important for a smartwatch and these are some great news to everyone who wanted to give Android Wear wearables a try. Read more »
Just as expected, Samsung is the third company to join the Android Wear fun, announcing its Gear Live smartwatch. The watch is water resistant and will be available for purchase later today from the Google Play Store.
The Gear Live looks a lot like the Gear 2. While virtually no specifications were provided, it seems that the Gear Live will carry the same 1.63″ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels. Read more »
Google I/O continues to draw near, and the leaks keep coming. The latest involves not just Motorola or LG announcing a smartwatch at the event, but Samsung as well.
Like the Moto 360 and LG G Watch, the alleged upcoming Samsung Gear Live is expected to run on Google’s Android Wear platform. Read more »
One of the main focuses on this year’s Google I/O is going to be Android Wear and products such as the LG G Watch and Motorola Moto 360 will take center stage. LG’s first Android Wear smartwatch has popped up today in a retail listing, which suggests a price tag of $255.
The price isn’t yet confirmed and there’s every possibility we could see the G Watch retail on the Google Play Store, too. In terms of availability, we should expect the watch to go on sale on July 7. Read more »
According to a poll performed by investment firm Piper Jaffray, 14% of people would buy Apple’s upcoming iWatch. This, however, has assumed a $350 price for the wearable.
Obviously, if the smartwatch will actually be cheaper, you should expect even more people to be interested in owning one. One recent report talked about it costing $300, in fact. Read more »
Samsung would have you believe you want, scratch that, you need, the Gear 2 smartwatch. You may as well see a point there if you happen to own one of the 17 smartphones and tablets with a Gear Manager app – all of which, needless to say – are made by Samsung.
We make it sound like a devious plot but, in truth, it makes sense to – at the very least – be able to quickly locate a misplaced smartphone. And that’s on top of taking calls and telling the time of course. Then come perks like playing nicely with the heart rate sensor and the S Health app on a Galaxy S5. Read more »
Google has launched an Introduction to Android Wear video, further hyping everyone a week before Google I/O 2014 kicks off. The video shows the Android Wear look and feel and goes on to shed some light on the developer side of things.
In the video, Google Developers evangelist Timothy Jordan also talks about the problem with most smartwatch user interfaces. According to Google, the UI of Android Wear is better, as it is centered around context and this helps users have all relevant information at a glance. Read more »
Apple’s iWatch has apparently been finalized, in terms of design, specs, and features. The reason why it isn’t actually being manufactured yet has nothing to do with the Cupertino company not being satisfied with its new product, and everything to do with the iWatch requiring certification from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
This is necessary because Apple wants to position the iWatch as a medical device, the latest rumors on the matter say. And if that’s the case, then the FDA’s approval is needed before it goes on sale. Read more »
Motorola was accepting submissions for watch faces for its upcoming Moto 360 smartwatch. After going through 1300 submissions, the company has whittled down to just 10 and is now letting the people choose the one they would want to see on the Moto 360.
The top 10 watch faces have significantly different designs, with some being overly simplistic and others cramming quite a lot of information on the screen at once. I personally didn’t find any one design particularly great (which makes me wonder about the other 1290 that were discarded) but there are a few that do look quite decent while conveying the necessary information. The LG G Watch is still flying under the radar but it’s continuing to pop up here and there, making sure we don’t forget it before it gets official. The latest public stunt saw it appear on Google Play’s devices website in Germany for a bit, before getting removed.
While we can take this to mean the watch is real, we already know that, so we’re just going to take as confirmation that Google will be selling it, probably alongside the Moto 360 smartwatch, on its Play website, much like with the Nexuses and Google Play Edition devices. Read more »
The wearable market is getting pretty inundated lately, with the iWatch, Samsung Galaxy Gear, LG’s G Watch, the upcoming Moto 360, and others, it seems that there are plenty of health-tracking devices out there that users can wear to measure their level of fitness activity.
But lets say you wanted a wearable that let you track and manage your finances? Well that’s the direction that Artefact wants to push the currency world to. Read more »
Samsung has issued a new major update to its Gear 2 that will bring it up to speed with the Gear Fit. The update brings improvements to S Health and various bug fixes but more importantly adds Blocking Mode (already present on the Fit).
Blocking Mode is Samsung’s Do Not Disturb feature which we’ve seen on Galaxy smartphones and blocks all incoming notifications from getting to your Gear 2. Blocking Mode can be set to either always on or during sleep only, which is very convenient. Read more »
Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs was known to be a pedantic perfectionist when it came to the design of his company’s products: he was a very hands-on guy.
CEO Tim Cook doesn’t seem to have this trait, however, as stated in a New York Times profile piece, and that he was more concerned with the “broader implications” of Apple’s products. The article did have some rumors about what this could mean for the iWatch, Apple’s upcoming wearable. Read more »
If you buy a Samsung Galaxy S5 from Vodafone UK until June 26, you’ll receive a free Gear Fit smartband. This is essentially a £149 bonus, as that’s how much the Gear Fit currently goes for on its own.
The offer is valid only if you purchase the Galaxy S5 from Vodafone’s website, but you can take advantage of it regardless of which 3G or 4G plan you choose. Read more »
