Nexus 5 camera samples crop up on Google+

The Nexus 5 is the first Nexus device with optical image stabilization. Officially it has a 1/3.2″ 8MP sensor and an f/2.4 aperture but the EXIF info on photos taken with the Nexus 5 report f/2.53.

That’s right, Nexus 5 photos are already on the web even if yours won’t ship for a week (it’s good to be a Googler). Read more »

Huawei inks a sponsorship deal with AC Milan football club

Huawei joined the likes of Samsung, LG, Sony, and HTC in being a football sponsor. The Chinese giant inked a deal with the storied Italian football team AC Milan to become its premium sponsor.

Unsurprisingly, Huawei will become AC Milan’s chief communications supplier as part of the deal. Read more »

Exynos-powered Samsung Galaxy Note 3 goes through our benchmark gauntlet

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is available in two different configurations – with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset or with the company’s own Exynos 5420 Octa SoC. In our review, we tested the Snapdragon 800 variant of the phablet (N9005) and it nearly tops all of the benchmark charts. Now, as we got our hands on the alternative Note 3 version, we’re eager to see how it compares when it comes to performance.

Prior to announcing the Galaxy Note 3, Samsung outed the updated Exynos 5420 Octa chip stating its 20% faster than its predecessor in the CPU department and nearly twice as fast in terms of GPU. This should give it a fighting chance against the heavyweight chip champion that the Snapdragon 800 is. Read more »

First Nokia Refocus samples are interactive, impressive

LeBron James enters the new NBA season all Geared up

You have probably heard of this LeBron James fella. The professional basketball player adorned with four Most Valuable Player awards, two NBA Finals MVPs and today starts the new season as defending champion looking for a three-peat (three consecutive titles).

According to Samsung, a part of that success was down to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and a rainbow assembly of Galaxy Gear smartwatches the star uses. Samsung’s curved display significantly boosts usability, study finds

Recently Samsung announced the Galaxy Round smartphone with a 5.7″ 1080p Super Flexible AMOLED display. Lots of people thought the curved display is just a gimmick or, even worse, an unnecessary feature designed to extract more of your hard-earned cash.

The researchers from DisplayMate Technologies don’t seem to share that view and found the curved screen quite useful. Their study found that the curved display reduces reflectiveness, which in turn imrpoves contrast and sunlight legibility. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Gear is surely a cool gadget, but it comes with lots of annoying limitations. Samsung is promising it will explore further the Galaxy Gear capabilities and will deliver more features later on.

Nokia Lumia 1520 uses its Assertive display tech to dominate the Xperia Z Ultra, Galaxy Note 3 and iPhone 5s

At the Nokia Lumia 1520 announcement in Abu Dabi, the Finns spent quite a lot of time praising the phablet’s screen – a 6″ ClearBlack IPS LCD with Apica’s Assertive display technology. It essentially brings the screen’s sunlight legibility capabilities to a whole new level, without draining the battery while doing so.

Stolen truck containing $14 million worth of LG G2′s recovered

Over the weekend a truck containing a shipment of LG G2 smartphones valued at some $14 million was stolen from a truck stop in Gary, Indiana.

Today, Kentucky State Police has recovered the truck full of lost goods intact, and has apprehended a suspect after he allegedly crashed a tractor trailer carrying the stolen cargo into a utility pole. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Round gets its own TV ad

Samsung has released the first commercial of the curved Galaxy Round smartphone. The ad is in Korean, because it is the first (and at this stage the only) country to get the cool gadget. It’s unclear if the curved smartphone will be going global in the future, but chances are looking slim at this point.

Meanwhile, LG has also announced its first curved smartphone – the 6.0-inch LG G Flex. It will be launching in Korea in November as well. Read more »

Nokia Lumia 800 works after being lost underwater for 3.5 months

Quite an amazing story coming out of Sweden today. A Nokia Lumia 800 smartphone was found after spending three and a half months in a lake and it was still working!
