Vertu announces Constellation Quest Carbon Fibre, you still can’t afford one

by 638 comments

Vertu has launched yet another phone that most of us can just afford to spend drool on. I’m talking about the new Constellation Quest Carbon Fibre and although it has the name and price tag of four phones it’s still just one, strikingly good looking device.

The pièce de résistance of this phone, as you may have guessed, is the carbon fiber body that takes inspiration from the world of motorsports, aeronautical designs and other expensive stuff. The carbon fiber is used on the back and on the front around the earpiece and the rest of the phone is either polished stainless steel or 18 carat polished gold depending on the model you choose. Here’s the winner of the Nokia Shorts 2011 video contest, it’s so cool

by 12 comments

You may have never heard of Nokia Shorts, and no it’s not some dirty euphemism for underwear. It’s actually a creative contest for film-making for artists, armed with the world’s current camera-phone top dog the Nokia N8.

The winner is a chap, named James W Griffiths, who made a split-screen video showing us two different points of view of two people, living in different cities. He’s called it “Splitscreen: A love story”. The video is brilliantly thought out and you can tell the creator spent many hours, if not days waiting for the right shot Read more »

Nokia talks about the N9 browser, shares some scores too

by 671 comments

The N9 continues to top the worldwide charts for most interesting handset of the month and that’s the way Nokia made it. We waited for the first MeeGo device for nearly two years and now that it’s finally official we can’t keep off it. It’s made to blend in top notch design and innovative build quality with a “fresh out the oven” OS with Nokia’s knowhow of craftsmanship and technology all into one device. A powerful combo indeed.

Now the official Nokia blog – Conversations, is dedicating an article to the new browser of the N9, detailing how it works, how it feels, how it scores and what were the ideas behind it. Nokia-appointed “browser guru” Christian Sejersen shares that the N9′s Meego browser was designed with the idea not to annoy its users and keep out of the way while they are browsing. So the UI is quite minimalistic – much like on an Android powered smartphone. Read more »

A few quick impressions on the Samsung Exhibit 4G

by 1,595 comments

With all the buzz around the Galaxy line of handsets, many people forget that it was cool mid-range handsets with good bang-for-the buck that took Samsung to the top. We managed to spend a bit of quality time with the just released Samsung Exhibit 4G for T-Mobile in the United States, and here come some fresh impressions for you.

The Exhibit 4G is by no means a flagship device, but it was never meant to be one. Its $79.99 price tag puts it in the middle of the T-Mobile Android range and it got most of the hardware of the last year’s Galaxy S. Read more »

Camera and video samples taken with the Nokia N9 MeeGo smartphone are still scarce so understandably we got pretty excited when we stumbled upon a whole bunch of them today.

Nokia will not return to MeeGo even if N9 turns out to be a hit, says Stephen Elop

by 182 comments

Nokia announced the MeeGo-based N9 smartphone last week and so far it has received nothing but praise from everyone who used the phone. Even in our short stint with the phone, we were blown away by the design, build, display and the interface of the phone and are aching to spend more time with it.

You’d think after receiving such positive response Nokia would give more attention to MeeGo, which is partly the reason why the N9 got such a fantastic response in the first place. But it seems Nokia doesn’t want anything to do with MeeGo anymore. Read more »

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer second generation coming Q4 2011 at the earliest along with quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3, Padfone with Ice Cream Sandwich and more

by 298 comments

ASUS is on track to releasing the second generation Eee Pad Transformer late this year, probably some time in October. The tablet-slash-notebook will probably pack the NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset, which is said to feature a quad-core monster of a CPU. Reportedly the company is also releasing a second Padfone with Android Ice Cream Sandwich and making available the Eee Pad Slider and a 7″ Eee Pad MeMO tablet with 3D support this year.

This information comes from respected Chinese source Digitimes.com and we are really hoping it’s true as it will bring the next evolutionary step in tablet world. The next Transformer crossover between a tablet and a netbook will offer the Tegra 3 chipset, rumored to be the 5x faster than Tegra 2 Kal-El. The original Transformer single-handedly put ASUS over its competition in the non-Apple tablet manufacturers club with 400.000 shipments in the first half of 2011. Read more »

It’s been three days since Nokia announced the MeeGo-running N9 but is shows no signs of wanting to move away from the spotlight. Today we’ve got the first 720p video sample taken with the N9′s camera.

Nokia N9 Product Manager talks about its camera, claims it to be the fastest

by 30 comments

We already knew few details about the camera on the N9 from Nokia’s website. Now the N9 Product Manager, Jens Wilke, has divulged some more information about it and also made claims of it being the fastest camera on any phone, with numbers to back his claims. So let’s look at the camera on the N9 in more detail.

First, let’s start with the things we already know. We know that the camera uses an 8 megapixel sensor. Unlike with the N8, Nokia hasn’t mentioned the physical size of the sensor on the N9. It uses Carl Zeiss optics. It’s a wide-angle lens and has an aperture of f2.2, which is wider than even the N8 lens which is at f2.8. This means Read more »
