Phones4u, one of the UK’s largest independent mobile phone retailers, has unveiled a program which lets you upgrade to a new phone every six months, regardless of your carrier contract.

It’s almost certain that the Lumia 800 won’t be the Nokia flagship once the company’s MWC press conference comes, but that doesn’t mean it won’t get any more love from its maker. On the contrary – the company is about to release a camera update for the WP smartphone.

Nokia Beta Labs, Nokia’s developer portal which allows users to test out beta versions of upcoming apps for Nokia phones for free, put out the latest version of its Maps Suite software for Belle—the most recent version of the Nokia OS.

While still technically in development, the new version provides some pretty cool functionality to the apps which come with Map Suite (Drive, Maps, My Location, Places, Public Transportation, Weather), specifically geared to take advantage of new Belle features. Read more »

Google is close to launching its very own Cloud Storage service, at least according to the Wall Street Journal. The file-storing service in question would be in direct rivalry against Dropbox, one of the hottest cloud-storage providers out there.

The main purpose of Google’s cloud service, called “Drive”, will be to meet users needs for storing files when using mobile devices like smartphone, tablets and laptops and to eliminate the need to manually sync them across desktops and vice versa, according to people, who are close to the development of Drive. The Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX looks so familiar, you can easily mistake it for its slimmer brother from certain angles. Aside its massive built-in battery and a change in the internal memory capacity, the newcomer in Verizon’s LTE lineup is identical to the DROID RAZR, which broke cover in November last year.

Quite frankly, I never thought that battery capacity will be the star feature in a high end Android smartphone, but, given my experience with a number of top notch devices from the past year, it makes perfect sense. After all, I witnessed several Android top dogs with massive spec sheets display battery performance, which puts their daily usability in question, thus forcing me to walk around with a charger in my pocket. For all of us eager for some news about the highly anticipated release of the latest CyanogenMod, Mr. Cyanogen himself, Steve Kondik, updated the official CyanogenMod site with news on how the most recent build is coming along.

Nokia launched the Lumia 800 last night in Poland with another one of their impressive 3D projection light shows.

Designed in sunny California, the iPhone isn’t too good at handling the cold – in fact, Apple only guarantees it will work between 0°C and 35°C. Finns however encounter cold winters often, so a group of them started wondering – which phone will last the most in freezing cold?

Continuing its ongoing ‘The Next Big Thing’ series of ads designed to ruthlessly mock the iPhone-line-waiters comes what seems to be the final chapter. But this is no ordinary ad, it is the Super Bowl ad, which is a pretty big deal in the US as millions of people watch these games.

So is the ad any good? Well, I’ll leave that for you to decide. This time, however, Samsung is using it to advertise the Galaxy Note instead of the Galaxy S II. I’m using the term ‘advertise’ loosely here because you barely see what the phone is capable of in it. Then again, that hardly seemed to be the point of these ads to begin with.
