Nokia Lumia 800 camera update in the works

by 17 comments

It’s almost certain that the Lumia 800 won’t be the Nokia flagship once the company’s MWC press conference comes, but that doesn’t mean it won’t get any more love from its maker. On the contrary – the company is about to release a camera update for the WP smartphone.

The official confirmation was brought by Nokia’s own Damian Dinning, who refused to share any details on the target release date or the specifics of the update. Read more »

Google preparing its own Cloud Storage service, says WSJ

by 23 comments

Google is close to launching its very own Cloud Storage service, at least according to the Wall Street Journal. The file-storing service in question would be in direct rivalry against Dropbox, one of the hottest cloud-storage providers out there.

The main purpose of Google’s cloud service, called “Drive”, will be to meet users needs for storing files when using mobile devices like smartphone, tablets and laptops and to eliminate the need to manually sync them across desktops and vice versa, according to people, who are close to the development of Drive. Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX review

by 29 comments

The Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX looks so familiar, you can easily mistake it for its slimmer brother from certain angles. Aside its massive built-in battery and a change in the internal memory capacity, the newcomer in Verizon’s LTE lineup is identical to the DROID RAZR, which broke cover in November last year.

Quite frankly, I never thought that battery capacity will be the star feature in a high end Android smartphone, but, given my experience with a number of top notch devices from the past year, it makes perfect sense. After all, I witnessed several Android top dogs with massive spec sheets display battery performance, which puts their daily usability in question, thus forcing me to walk around with a charger in my pocket. The DROID RAZR MAXX is clearly aimed at this painful issue. Read more »

Siri sure knows how to keep you from selling your iPhone 4S [VIDEO]

by 41 comments

Now this probably shouldn’t worry you right now as hardly anyone plans to sell their iPhone just a few months after acquiring it, but it’s one to keep in mind for the future. Siri might go crazy if she hears you consider selling its home.

Okay, maybe the filmmakers Andrew and Nathan McMurry added a dash of imagination to the whole deal, but the result is really worth checking out. 4 minutes and 25 seconds of pure awesomeness follow. Read more »

Braving the cold: which phone will work at -40 degrees Celsius?

by 83 comments

Designed in sunny California, the iPhone isn’t too good at handling the cold – in fact, Apple only guarantees it will work between 0°C and 35°C. Finns however encounter cold winters often, so a group of them started wondering – which phone will last the most in freezing cold?

They took the 15 of the most popular phones in Finland and decided to do a test – all the way down to -40°C. They plotted when phones first started exhibiting problems and when they stopped working completely. Read more »

Samsung turns ‘The Next Big Thing’ ad series into a Super Bowl ad for the Galaxy Note [VIDEO]

by 70 comments

Continuing its ongoing ‘The Next Big Thing’ series of ads designed to ruthlessly mock the iPhone-line-waiters comes what seems to be the final chapter. But this is no ordinary ad, it is the Super Bowl ad, which is a pretty big deal in the US as millions of people watch these games.

So is the ad any good? Well, I’ll leave that for you to decide. This time, however, Samsung is using it to advertise the Galaxy Note instead of the Galaxy S II. I’m using the term ‘advertise’ loosely here because you barely see what the phone is capable of in it. Then again, that hardly seemed to be the point of these ads to begin with. You can check out the ad for yourself after the break. Read more »
