Samsung rebrands its SD card lineup to match SSDs

Samsung has seen some great success with its 840 PRO and EVO series of SSD drives, so much so that it’s decided to rebrand its microSD and SD cards to match that nomenclature.

The new Standard, EVO, and PRO cards from the Korean manufacturer will feature easy to distinguish colors which should help consumers in differentiating between the features and capabilities of the different classes. Read more »

Nokia Lumia 1520 might get Miracast support, older WP devices have no chance

Microsoft introduced its latest mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8.1 a few days ago. Back at its announcement, the Redmond giant did mention that the newest OS supports Miracast, but we now know that the wireless screen casting service would require new hardware to work and will not be available on all WP 8.1 devices.

According to a tweet from Joe Belfiore, the head of Windows Phone group, Miracast would require new hardware and Nokia Lumia 1520 might be the only device to qualify. Read more »

Mysterious Samsung SM-T800 slate passes FCC

An unannounced Samsung slate that goes by the model name SM-T800 has passed the FCC. It looks to be the Wi-Fi-only variant of the SM-T801 and SM-T805, which got their evaluation last month.

The SM-T800 has been leaked before in a benchmark test which pointed to an Exynos 5 Octa chipset with four Cortex-A15 cores running at 1.9 GHz, 3 gigs of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, 8 MP and 2 MP cameras on the back and front. The slate runs on Android KitKat 4.4.2 and could sport a 2560 x 1600 10.5″ AMOLED on the front. Read more »

Marvell hit with $1.54 billion court verdict for willful patent infringement

A District court in Pittsburgh has ruled today that U.S. semiconductor company Marvell has knowingly infringed on two hard disk patents held by Carnegie Mellon University.

Judge Nora Barry Fischer has ruled that the university has proven that the manufacturer has deliberately copied its patents, awarding enhanced damages to the extent of $1.54 billion. Read more »

HTC officially confirmed that the One (M8) features benchmark score-boosting High Performance Mode. The word arrived hot on the heels of yesterday’s story about the inflated AnTuTu scores of the Android flagship.
