Lenovo teasing tablet for Mobile World Congress

Lenovo has got a secret and it will share it with the world tomorrow at 1pm EST. The company is teasing an image of a tablet, which shows very little – a frame, some large-looking bezels and a front-facing camera.

On the screen we see a shadow of a person, perhaps the tablet will be able to recognize people through the camera or some other sensor? Read more »

Another Nokia X vine tease is posted

Nokia continues the green duck teasing of their X Android smartphone. This time, we see a wall of cell phones barely able to hold back a flood.

We got to spend some time with Samsung Smartphone GamePad accessory and got some pictures as well as some impressions for you guys.

The GamePad wirelessly connects to any Android device from 4″ to 6.3″ and as you can see snuggles the Galaxy Note 3 pretty comfortably. It works over Bluetooth 4.0 and you can take advantage of the built-in NFC for easy pairing. The GamePad has two analogue sticks, one directional pad, four action keys, 2 trigger buttons on the top and a start select button. Read more »

Xperia Z1 Compact has a plastic back, Sony confirms

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact may look and feel like its bigger sibling, but as it turns out there is a subtle but important difference in the build of the two.

Apple met with Tesla Motors’ Elon Musk in 2013

Apple’s chief of mergers and acquisitions Adrian Perica met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in Cupertino last spring, which some analysts believe could be related to a potential partnership between the two companies.

In the past, pundits have urged Apple to make a daring acquisition of the like-minded electric vehicle company, which at the very least raises hopes for an eventual EV running with Apple technology. Read more »

Sadly, there’s not much truth to this story, but it’s always cool to look at concepts of what might be. It’s especially cool when dealing with flagships – the phones that will shape the mobile landscape in the future year.

This time we’ve got two concepts of an Apple iPhone 6, built around rumors of bigger-screened iDevices we heard recently. ARM reports lower than expected revenue due to fewer smartphone sales

British chip designer ARM, who licenses its technology to mobile chip makers like Qualcomm and Samsung in exchange for royalties, has reported a slowdown in Q4 royalty revenues due to lower than expected high-end smartphone sales.

Last month, Samsung and Apple each reported lower than expected sales of their flagship iPhone 5s and Galaxy S4 devices – both of which contain ARM technology inside. Read more »

Qualcomm reports record revenues, increases outlook for 2014

Qualcomm, a major player in the mobile market, published its report for the quarter that ended in December. Revenue is up to record levels, but missed analysts’ expectations and net income is down year on year.

Revenue for the quarter was $6.52 billion, up 10% year on year. On that Qualcomm made $1.88 billion in net income, down 2% YoY, with an effective tax rate of 18%. Read more »

Slim PS Vita hits the UK on February 7 at £180

Sony launched the slimmer, lighter PlayStation Vita PCH-2000 in Japan late last year and the refreshed portable has now made its way to the UK. Its launch price is lower – £180 (the original launched at £200) – and it features more internal storage and better battery life to boot.

Another change in the PCH-2000 compared to the original is that the 5″ qHD AMOLED has been replaced by an IPS LCD of the same resolution. Read more »

Qualcomm buys 2,400 patents from struggling HP

San Diego-based Qualcomm has purchased mobile patents from PC giant Hewlett-Packard, giving the mobile chipset manufacturer 2,400 mobile patents for an undisclosed amount.

Many of the patents now controlled by Qualcomm include those of now-defunct Palm, which was purchased by HP in 2010 for $1.2 billion. Read more »

Oppo Find 7′s screen will work with gloves and wet fingers

We reported a bit on the Find 7 a while back and we’ve got some interesting news that makes the device even more enticing: the screen will work with gloves and wet fingers.

One of the biggest drawbacks of capacitive screens is that they tend to not work as well in really cold weather, when there’s moisture on the your fingers (or the screen), or when you’re wearing gloves. Read more »
