Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 specs leak as announcement nears

by 614 comments

I bet every tablet-loving gadget fan has been anticipating this one from day one. Well, most of you, anyway. Ever since the first “What’s your tab life?” teaser hit the web, we have been waiting to see what this new Samsung tablet is all about.

Well now that we are only a few hours away from its official announcement we can confirm most of its key specs. Now the 8.9″ display is an obvious one for the Galaxy Tab, but the really great WXGA resolution (that’s 1280×800 pixels, in case you are wondering) comes as a nice bonus. This’s 30% more pixels than the iPad 2 has and the same as its bigger brother – Galaxy Tab 10.1. Read more »

Archos gen 9 tablets to come in June with 1.6 GHz dual-core CPUs, 3G and Honeycomb for 400 euro

by 3 comments

For such a minor manufacturer Archos certainly brings plenty of innovation to the table. The Archos 70 and 101 tablets were pretty exciting already with their slim waistlines and remarkable feature to price ratio, but it seems the best is still to come.

The company has just released some details about its upcoming ninth generation tablets and those look like some pretty powerful beasts. For one, they will be packing 1.6 GHz dual-core Cortex A9 CPUs, which is 60% better than what the current best (think iPad 2 and XOOM) have to offer. Read more »

by 197 comments

The iPad 2 has finally settled in our office. Since the performance is the key feature on the new iPad we were curious how faster the iPad 2 is. The only way to see that is to put the first and second gen tablets head to head and see what happens.

We preloaded both iPads with absolutely the same content, enabled the multi-touch gestures, closed all active apps from the multi-tasking bar and started tapping some icons.

The Wi-Fi iPad 2 gets a GPS signal, once you hook it up with iPhone 4, what do you know

by 13 comments

It turns out that the new iPad 2 can act as a SatNav unit, even without having a GPS receiver inside. All you need is an iPhone 4 with the latest iOS 4.3 and enabled hot-spot functionality.

Besides transmitting its data connection to the Wi-Fi-only iPad 2, the iPhone 4 new hotspot functionality can actually sends GPS information to its larger sibling as well. So in theory, if you’re not sure whether to get a Wi-Fi or 3G- Wi-Fi combo version of the iPad 2, this knocks one consideration from the list. You can actually use it as a dedicated big-screen GPS unit, even though there’s no GPS chip inside. Read more »
