Chinese manufacturer, Cube, has prepped an Android tablet with a display sporting the “Retina” resolution of the iPad 3, namely 2048 x 1536.

The Cube U9GT5 will allegedly cost just $200 (or less than half an iPad 3) and will probably be launched in China first at an unspecified date. Read more »

The Optimus G E973 is LG’s new flagship and the South Korean company has made sure that both the hardware and the software give you plenty to be excited about. There’s the laser-cut plastic for enhanced precision, the laminated Zerogap display, the 13MP camera with Time catch shot, the wireless dual-screen functionality (not just mirroring) and more.

Seeing things in action is usually the best way to describe which feature does what. Take the Time catch shot – it lets you take a shot and then gives you several shots taken even before you pressed the shutter. Acer has finally announced the 7-inch Iconia Tab A110 that we have seen multiple times in the past. There is not much new here that we don’t already know about. It has a 7-inch, 1024 x 600 resolution display, NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor and Android 4.1, Jelly Bean.

The display resolution seems like a letdown compared to the Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire HD but the Iconia Tab A110 does come with a microSD card slot as well as micro HDMI out that the other two lack. Read more »

Twitter has released a brand new application for the iPad, which does away completely with the sliding pane design of the previous application, designed by Loren Brichter, creator of the original Tweetie app (now Twitter for iPhone).

The new application now places a single list of tweets on the screen, regardless of whether you hold the iPad in landscape or portrait. It does come across as a terrible waste of screen space, especially in landscape mode and the developers could definitely have put more effort in utilizing all that display area. Read more »

We continue putting the LG Optimus G Snapdragon S4 Pro chipsets through its paced and now it’s the Adreno 320 GPU turn to impress.

Qualcomm chipsets have hardly ever been known for providing the best possible graphics performance, but it appears things are about to change with the S4 Pro. The Adreno 320 didn’t quite give competitors the same royal spanking as the quad-core Krait, but it still managed to beat them at both benchmarks we ran. Read more »

The quad-core Krait CPU might be the LG Optimus G feature that’s making all the headlines, but we shouldn’t also forget that the smartphone comes with a 13 megapixel camera with a brand new 5-element lens, specially designed for its sensor.

We were able to snap a couple of photos with the LG Optimus G and we are rushing to share them with you. The lighting was far from perfect, but the LG flagship still did pretty well for a smartphone and way better than its modest 1/3.2″ sensor size suggests. Read more »

If there’s one thing Gameloft’s good at, it’s consistently bringing console quality games to the small screen. Some of these are perhaps too close to some of the console titles out there, close enough to be labelled as clones, but for those who want to experience some of the audio visual glory that they are used to seeing on the big screen in the palm of their hands, these games have rarely disappointed.

Well, that one surely didn’t take long, guys! With the world still gushing with emotions over the Apple iPhone 5 launch, Samsung released an ad for its Galaxy S III smartphone, which aims right at Apple’s latest and greatest offering.

A situation arose yesterday where Acer’s plans to announce a smartphone in China based on Alibaba’s Aliyun operating systems were brought to a screeching halt when Google threatened to basically kick Acer out of the Open Handset Alliance if it chose to go ahead with the Aliyun phone. There seems to be a lot misinformation about this situation so let’s go through it and see what really happened.

First of all, the Open Handset Alliance is a consortium of 84 companies and was started by Google. Together these companies build and develop what we know as Android. Members get to have access to the full Android experience and use it to their liking as long as the final product is still compatible with the Android ecosystem. You don’t need to be a part of this alliance to use Android, it’s open source after all, but if you’re part of the alliance you have to play by its rules. Read more »

Intel is busy with IDF and while it’s mostly focusing on its next generation CPU architecture, Haswell, there was some good news about Android too. Namely, that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has been ported to work with the smartphone-oriented Atom processor.

There are a number of devices that use the Z2460 chip, including the Lenovo K800, Orange Santa Clara, Lava XOLO X900, ZTE Grand X IN and soon, a brand new droid from Motorola. Read more »
