Nikon announces Android-based Coolpix S800c point and shoot camera

Nikon has finally announced their first Android-based Coolpic S800c point and shoot camera. On the camera side, it comes with a 16 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, 10x optical zoom, 1080p video recording with stereo sound, 3.5-inch OLED touchscreen, EXPEED C2 processor, GPS and Wi-Fi.

On the Android side, it comes with Android 2.3, Gingerbread pre-installed. You may remember that in yesterday’s article I wrote that it seems unlikely that Nikon would put stock Gingerbread on a camera. Well, turns out there is more to it than that. Read more »

Oh, this is a “Dear Diary” moment! Christopher Taylor of Glasgow got fed up with his clumsy Motorola Atrix and decided to go down Windows Phone path via the Nokia Lumia 800.

South Korean Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE is trading Honeycomb for Ice Cream Sandwich

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE in South Korea is getting updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and the update brings along a number of goodies. Up until now, the Super AMOLED-packing tablet was running Android 3.2.

The update brings the usual round of performance improvements, better multitasking and face unlock. Also, the native data tracker feature are a welcome update to keep track of that LTE data usage. Read more »

avast! Mobile Security adds anti-theft features in the latest version

avast! Mobile Security application for Android has received a major update in version 2.0 and now includes a very useful feature in the form of anti-theft protection. This features were initially found in the beta version but are now part of the main app. With the help of this feature, you will be able to locate your phone on a map and will also be able to use other commands such as remotely trigger a siren, remote lock and even remote wipe using the excellent web portal.

The application is also smart enough to send a message whenever it detects that the SIM has been swapped. This way, if someone steals your phone and swaps the SIM, you will be able to locate the phone on a map and also have the mobile number of the perpetrator, thus making it easier to find your phone. Android running Nikon camera surfaces again, this time through pictures

We have reported in the past about Nikon working on an Android based point and shoot camera. Nikon Rumors have now published some pictures that are allegedly of this yet to be announced camera.

The camera in question looks like your usual point and shooter from the front, until you get to the back where you’ll find a large touchscreen along with the usual physical Android navigation keys. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is easy to repair, says iFixit

The iFixit guys have no mercy – the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 couldn’t even go a week before being torn to pieces for the greater good. It didn’t put up much of a fight (and that’s a good thing) as there are only a few Philips screws and clips standing in your way when you need to open the tablet.

From then on things are pretty easy to detach. There are some oddities (the vibration motor is hooked up to the microSD card slot assembly), but the front and back cameras are separate components, so you can swap them out one at a time. Read more »

Google Play Store gift cards set to arrive on August 26 in US stores

We recently reported that Google has quietly added support for gift cards in the latest version of the Play Store application for Android but the feature has not been enabled or announced yet. That’s because they gift cards themselves aren’t available yet.

Motorola RAZR MAXX comes by our office with its friend, Android ICS

The new Motorola RAZR family has a long distance runner in its family – the RAZR MAXX. The phone isn’t new and we’ve already reviewed the CDMA version for Verizon and the GSM version of the regular RAZR, but Motorola pushed out the ICS update about a month ago, so we thought we should put it through our review routine.

The Verizon version has been our battery test champ for quite a while now and no phone seems like it can dethrone it. We will, of course, do a battery test on this one too, just to check if there are any differences, but that will come later. Read more »
