Google may follow the trend and launch an 8.9″ tablet as its first tablet project for this year, reports Digitimes. The affordable 7″ form factor is dominant at the moment, but makers have been experimenting with various sizes for a while.

The first official review of the Galaxy S5 is out, even though the phone is still some way off from being officially available. The review touches upon various aspects of the phone’s performance, talking about some of the new features and how it fares compared to its predecessor.

Starting with the design, the S5 is physically larger than the S4 but it more than makes up for being water resistant. Although Samsung made it clear that the phone is only water resistant and not waterproof, as you can see in the image above the phone can safely be left underwater for a while without damaging it. Google has started rolling out an update for the Play Store app on Android. Version 4.6.16 brings with it some much needed features, along with some UI changes.

One of the major additions is the ability to batch install apps from your apps history. This will come extremely handy when you get a new device and want to install all your apps on it. You just go to the All tab in My Apps section and press and hold apps to start marking apps you want to batch install. Also, the app won’t take you to the top of the list anymore after you remove an app from your list. Read more »

Replicant, a third party developer of an open source Android distribution, claims to have stumbled on a backdoor program that makes it possible for the modem to modify the phone’s onboard storage.

It’s about a month before the Samsung Galaxy S5 will hit the shelves across the globe but thanks to some work by a developer with early access to the smartphone many of its preinstalled appsare now available for download.
