Have you ever used a free application in Android, and then found yourself clicking on an ad in the app, even though you could have sworn you never touched the foul pop-up?

Benchmark-boosting High Performance Mode officially confirmed in HTC One (M8)

HTC officially confirmed that the One (M8) features benchmark score-boosting High Performance Mode. The word arrived hot on the heels of yesterday’s story about the inflated AnTuTu scores of the Android flagship.

In a response to an inquiry made by CNET, HTC confirmed that its engineers optimize the device to produce the highest possible performance in certain scenarios, including benchmark tests. Read more »

Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5 comes with a host of new features that includes a heart rate sensor and a fingerprint scanner. Now it has been discovered the device also packs a unique option called baby monitor, which alerts the parents when a child starts crying.

Samsung Galaxy S5 gets the teardown treatment

It was going to happen eventually, but somewhat surprisingly it has happened before the actual market launch. The Samsung Galaxy S5 has undergone the teardown treatment. This time though, it wasn’t executed by iFixit, but Russian tech site Ferra.

Nevertheless, the teardown revealed all of the Galaxy S5′s internals. According to the person that did the teardown, the screen is quite tricky to remove and you have to heat the phone quite a bit in order to get the glue holding the display to melt and let go. Read more »

Android apps twice as stable as iOS ones, study shows

The latest report coming out of mobile app management company Crittercism indicates that in looking at app behavior recent versions of the two most popular mobile OSs, Android and iOS, it’s the Google OS that’s actually the more stable one.

Microsoft Office Mobile for Android drops Office 365 subscription requirement

Yesterday, Microsoft finally announced the Office suite of apps for the iPad, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. But along with the new announcement, Microsoft also made a quiet change to its existing Android app.

Just like its iOS counterparts, the Android version of the Office Mobile app required an Office 365 subscription to actually be used to create and edit documents. Surprisingly, Microsoft has dropped that requirement now, which means you can access the app fully without having to spend a dime. Read more »

LastPass can now autofill app log-ins on Android

If there ever was a time to go for the $12 a year premium membership for LastPass it’s now. The form and password-filling service that’s so popular for web browsers has gotten a great new update for Android, allowing it to auto-fill your account log-ins on Android.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 official photos leak

Thanks to evleaks we can take a first glimpse at the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0. Samsung’s fourth-generation 7″ tablet sports a look similar to the Galaxy Note 3. It sports the classic three button configuration under the display, too.

As with the previous Galaxy Tab 7.0 slates, the latest one is going to have a SIM-card slot enabling users to make calls. If you feel like it, you will be able to use the earpiece above the display. In addition, the Power/Lock and volume rocker keys are on the right hand side. Read more »

HTC One (M8) easier to repair than its predecessor, barely

The HTC One received the lowest ever repairability score that iFixit has ever given a smartphone – 1/10. So, how did the new One (M8) do? it’s a massive improvement as the score has doubled to… well, 2/10.

Valve’s ‘Portal’ announced for NVIDIA SHIELD

NVIDIA has revealed that Valve will be releasing an Android version of the highly popular Portal game for the NVIDIA SHIELD console. Although you could play the game before on your SHIELD by streaming it from your PC this is a native Android version that probably won’t look as good but can be played anywhere without the need for an internet connection.

What we don’t know for sure if the game will be available exclusively for SHIELD, for other Tegra devices as well, on all Android devices or also on other platforms such as iOS. Read more »
