Skyrim wins the Game of the Year award at VGA 2011, here are the rest of the winners

The winners of Spike TV’s Video Game Awards 2011 have recently been announced. Currently in its eight year, the VGA honors some of the best games across different categories.

As some of you may have guessed and wished for, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim won the Game of the Year award at this year’s VGA. Considering the fact that it was against formidable rivals such as Batman: Arkham City, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Portal 2 and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, that is quite a victory. Samsung returns with another Galaxy S II ad, boasts about music streaming features

After mocking iPhone fans in general and then returning to tout the 4G LTE feature of its Galaxy S II smartphone, Samsung is back again with the third installment of what is now clearly a series of ads.

In the latest ad Samsung talks about the iPhone users sticking to iPhones for the fear of ‘giving up’ all their music and movies whereas Galaxy S II owners have nothing to worry about because all of their music comes from the cloud and that they have tons of other places to download their movies from. Apple introduces refurbished iPad 2, lets you save up to $100 compared to new units

As if the iPad 2 wasn’t well-priced already, here’s your chance to get one for an even lower price. Apple has started selling refurbished units from their online store and prices start at a very attractive $419 for the base 16GB Wi-Fi-only model, which usually sells for $499.

You will find a similar $80 discount on the 16GB 3G model and a $100 discount on the 32GB and 64GB models. You can even find the first generation 64GB 3G + Wi-Fi model for a $499, a whole $230 less than what it once used to sell for. Read more »

Are you a big Batman fan? Then you must have enjoyed playing Batman: Arkham City that was recently released for the consoles and the PC. And if you enjoyed playing that game then you will probably love Batman Arkham City Lockdown as well, provided you have an iOS device.

Publisher Warner Bros. and developer NetherRealm Studios have brought the epic action of the Batman games on to the smaller screen of your smartphone and tablets. Twitter goes through a major redesign, updates the web UI, TweetDeck and mobile applications in one go

Twitter released a major update yesterday that spanned their website, mobile applications and even the recently acquired TweetDeck. The web interface now includes a new top bar with three new tabs for Home, Connect and Discover.

Home is your timeline where you can see tweets from the people you follow and yourself. The profile information and additional options that were present on the right side of the previous design have been shifted to the left. You can now click on tweets to expand them and if there are any images or videos embedded then they can be viewed right then and there. Read more »

Updated Facebook app for Android finally goes live, brings redesigned UI and faster performance

The highly anticipated update to the Android version of the Facebook app has finally hit the Android Market. With this new update, Facebook has introduced a new UI that should make your life a lot easier.

For starters there is now a bar at the top with that, just like the Facebook website, which gives you quick access to your friends requests, messages and notifications. You even get real time push notifications now. Another new feature is a left-hand menu that slides in from the side to give you quick access to your favorites, lists and the search bar. Read more »

Google+ app for Android gets updated, brings new icon, search and +1 for photos and comments

Hot on the heels of the update for the iOS version, Google has now upgraded the Android version of the Google+ app. Among the most noticeable changes is a new red icon, which is now the same as the favicon for the Google+ website.

HP seeds webOS 3.0.5 update to developers, concentrates mostly on fixing bugs for now

Although the future of the platform is still up in the air it seems HP intends to take care of webOS and its users for time being. According to PreCentral.net, HP has seeded the webOS 3.0.5 update to members of the Early Access Program, just two months after the 3.0.4 update was released to users.

Like the previous updates, 3.0.5 concentrates mostly on fixing bugs in the OS. Read more »

Windows Store opens in February to developers, will be your only source for Metro-style apps

Microsoft has divulged some juicy details regarding the upcoming Windows Store for Windows 8. Like any application store, this will be a unified location to download apps on your Windows 8 device and will be your only source for downloading Metro-style apps.

First of all, the Store will open its doors to developers starting February, 2012. Developers can create an account by paying $49 and after that proceed to develop apps for the platform. Read more »

Google’s Dianne Hackborn talks about hardware acceleration in Android, says it had it in it all along

Every time an Android device skipped a frame someone somewhere blamed it on the lack of hardware acceleration. Ice Cream Sandwich was hailed as the first iteration of Android to bring hardware acceleration, even though Honeycomb has been doing it all along so did the older versions of Android, to some extent.

As you can see, there is a lot of misinformation regarding this particular topic and so to address this, Google’s Dianne Hackborn decided to write a lengthy post on Google+ and put the issue to rest once and for all. Androidland launches in Melbourne courtesy Google and Telstra, lets you get your droid on

Google and Australian telecommunications company Telstra have joined forces to launch the world’s first store dedicated to Android. Called the Androidland, it’s not just a place to buy Android devices but also where you can experience all the different features in the OS and just enjoy yourself.

There is a lot to do in this Android-themed store, decked in the traditional Android green color. You can play Angry Birds on a giant touchscreen display, Androidify yourself or check out the world on a massive display using Google Earth. They have even gone as far as to have a gingerbread scent in the store and a grass scent where there is grass. And then of course, you have handsets from all the major manufacturers, which you can try out for yourself. Read more »

Verizon Galaxy Nexus to come with bloatware, will let you disable them

The mythical creature known as the Verizon Galaxy Nexus has been spotted in the wild and much to the surprise of its spotters was found running some Verizon apps. As you may know, the Nexus phones have been known to come with a stock ROM from Google with nothing but Google’s own applications installed. The Galaxy Nexus will be the first to break this tradition and have some bloatware courtesy of Verizon, tarnishing the name of the Nexus brand forever.

Google employees taste Ice Cream Sandwich on their Nexus S, mere mortals not far from getting it on theirs

Ever since Google announced the Galaxy Nexus and along with it Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, those of us with a Nexus S have been salivating at the chance of getting it on our own devices. Unfortunately, Google did not give any official date as to when the update will be made available for download.

It seems now, however, that it won’t be too long now. A Google employee posted on Google+ that he got the Ice Cream Sandwich on his Nexus S and that ‘it’s looking great’. The update was later on deleted from the site but you can see a screenshot below. Read more »
