The Samsung Galaxy S II is getting updated to Android Gingerbread 2.3.6. Three UK have also confirmed 2.3.6 for the original Galaxy S but it won’t come before January.
We’ve received a report that the Galaxy S II has already received the 2.3.6 update via Kies software. The first reported country to receive the update is Mexico but users elsewhere around the globe should receive it soon I guess. Read more »

In an alleged email sent to its partners Samsung reportedly expressed the intention to stop making netbooks and focus on ultraportables (11.6″ and 12″) and ultrabooks starting from Q1 2012.

The quad-core Transformer Prime is all but official by now but Asus have went that extra distance and setup a dedicated product page for their premium slate over at their website complete with specs and features.
And if you’re a UK resident, not so keen on quad-core and think dual-core is good enough, you’re in luck as the first-gen Transformer just got a special price cut in some retail shops (Best Buy and HMV) for the 16GB model – now starting at £299 (80 quid lower than the launch asking price). Steve “Cyanogen” Kondik has announced that his extremely popular ROM series CyanogenMod will be coming to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 when his group upgrades their ROM base to Android Ice Cream Sandwich in version 9.
The CM9 (7 is for Gingerbread and 8 for Honeycomb) is already in the works and the CM team expects the first stable versions to arrive early next year. Read more »

Apple was granted a pretty stiff location-services patent that was retrieved from Xerox about two years ago. Originally Xerox filed for it in 1998 and had received it in the year 2000. The patent is quite broad in its terms so this could mean trouble for Android and company.
The patent refers to any system that is location-based, that needs to transmit a location to a network and receive information back. Read more »
There are new Skype betas available for download, bringing the Facebook video-calling feature for both PC and Mac users. Back in July Facebook launched its video-calling feature, courtesy of Skype, and now you can video-chat with your friends straight from the Skype app too.
Starting a video call is easy enough. All you need is the latest beta of Skype, where you sign in with your Facebook account and voila – you’ve enabled video calls with your Facebook friends. Read more »
The Motorola DROID Razr is officially out today and the lucky ones that have received their devices have already found a 1-click rooting solution.
All you need to do to root the device is install an app called DooMLord_V2, the USB drivers (or let your OS do that automatically), set the device in debugging mode, connect it to your PC and let the app do the job for you. Read more »

The Motorola RAZR has already launched for the UK and now it’s USA’s turn, courtesy of Verizon. The DROID RAZR is now available over at Amazon Wireless for Verizon and is priced at $111.11, which is some way off the official $299.99 Verizon price.
Being that today is 11.11.2011 and the price is non-accidentally exactly $111.11 you can see what Moto did there. We suspect though that the promotion is a limited-time offer and we’ll be back to normal tomorrow, so if you have set your sight on the slim Kevlar-coated droid, you might want to hurry up with the order. iOS 5 has been around for some time now, in beta form, but now that it’s official hackers are hard at work revealing its secrets to the eager public. This time it’s an automatic native word suggesting feature, which displays words above the keyboard while you’re typing. The “Go” has been replaced by “Confirm” so that you can confirm the selected word suggestion and move on with your typing.
The feature can be enabled fairly easy and doesn’t require a jailbreak, which is welcome news for many non-jailbreak enthusiasts. It’s reportedly been tested on the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 but should become available to all iOS 5-certified phones. Read more »
