Sharp starts mass production of 5-inch 1080p mobile displays

Japanese manufacturer Sharp has submitted a press release announcing it has started mass production of the first 5 inch Full HD display for mobiles.

The new displays will achieve an unprecedented pixel density of 443 ppi, which is over 100 ppi higher than highest currently available. Read more »

Google Maps updates with higher resolution images and adds 45 degree view as well

Google has updated their maps platform to include higher-detailed satellite imagery, as well as a new 45° view mode.

It has covered 51 cities initially, including the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, and the State Capitol building in Austin, Texas. Read more »

Sony buys 11% stake in Olympus for $644 million

Sony has bought an 11 percent stake in Olympus for $644 million with the hopes of providing advances in medical imaging and camera lenses.

Latest Qualcomm ad targets Intel’s new Atom processor

13MP mobile camera sensor from Samsung in the works

Samsung is in the process of developing a 13 MP camera sensor for use in mobile phones and tablets.

The S5K3L2 CIS is set to be able to capture stills with a maximum resolution of 4208 x 3120 pixels, 30 fps video. Read more »
