Today’s Motorola event was mostly dedicated to the company’s new RAZR lineup, but it also gave a chance to Motorola’s recently appointed CEO, Dennis Woodside (a former Google exec), to give us a glimpse of Motorola’s strategy in the realm of mobile devices now that it’s been acquired by Google. “New Motorola starts today!”

At the Motorola event held today in New York City, Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt confirmed some interesting new numbers for the Android platform adoption.

There are some 480 million total Androids in the world as of today. That’s 80 million more than there were on June 27, when we got the latest update. Read more »

Okay, the Nokia Wireless Charging accessories are seriously cool, but what if you want more than just charge your phone? Nokia thought of this as well and has teamed up with JBL to introduce the PowerUp Wireless Charging Speaker.

Nokia has just announced the next generation Windows Phone smartphones – the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820. One of the cool new features shared by the duo is the wireless charging support.

Nokia has already announced four compatible accessories and two partners, who agreed to install charging stations in their respective chains – Virgin Atlantic and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Read more »

Adding pinch-zooming to the camera interface is nothing to shout home about, but the addition of third-party plugins certainly is. All smartphone users have their favorite photo apps, but imagine having them all inside the main camera interface. That’s what the new camera lenses feature on Windows Phone 8 promises.

As Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore demoed today, when you install a new camera-centric app from the Marketplace, it integrates as a sort of a lens, an add-on inside your main camera app. So when you start the camera, you have all the special effects, panoramas and image manipulation tricks, in one place. Today, Microsoft’s Corporate VP for Windows Phone, Joe Belfiore, stepped on stage to demo some never before released features of the upcoming Windows Phone 8 in honor of the unveiling of the new generation of Nokia Lumia phones. One of the first features he was to quick to show, was the new built-in screenshot feature that comes with the new iteration of the mobile OS.

Now built-in screenshots are really not a make-or-break feature for any mobile OS, but we guess the presentation stated with that as an ice-breaker. Read more »

The joint Nokia/Microsoft announcement today is over. We saw the unveiling of the Nokia’s new Lumia 820 and Lumia 920. What we didn’t hear however, is when these devices will launch – along with Windows Phone 8 as a whole. Or did we?

Nokia used the floor of its just finished New York Windows Phone 8 event to reveal some statistics on its Lumia smartphones and their market performance thus far.

Although the basic Google Maps service has been available in India for years now, some of the fancier features such as Navigation remained unavailable. That is, until now.

Google has now enabled the Navigation feature in India, which means now along with being able to get driving directions you will also have a voice reading them out so you can focus on the road instead of your phone’s display. Read more »

Two weeks ago Google launched an experiment to bring plain vanilla Android on Sony’s top shelf Xperia smartphone. According to Google’s Technical Lead of the AOSP (Android Open Source Project), “Xperia S is a powerful current GSM device, with an unlockable bootloader, from a manufacturer that has always been very friendly to AOSP.”

Today Sony gave the last piece needed buy the Google’s AOSP – the Xperia S binaries or in layman’s terms – all the drivers needed to run the Xperia S hardware. Read more »
