Google has quietly added a new feature to its desktop Google Maps and now lets bikers avoid steep hills and climbs when you’re planning a route.

The feature will be much appreciated by bike enthusiasts as the elevation profiles will make it easy to choose that single best route without the need to use other software aside from Google’s Maps. Read more »

Flappy Bird is back in the news again, with the developer Dong Nguyen announcing that the game will be making a return. After initially pulling the game from the stores for being too addictive, the developer now has a new version he says will be less addictive.

One addition to the game will be a multiplayer mode. How it will be implemented and how the rest of the game will be different is not known. Read more »

The HTC Desire 816 is the company’s second phablet after the HTC One Max from last year. Unlike that one, the Desire 816 is a mid-range device with specs similar to the new HTC One mini 2. Not an aluminum unibody though it does have front-facing stereo speakers and a 13MP camera.

Samsung officially announced the Galaxy K Zoom camera phone a few days ago. Now, in an attempt to further push the device, the company has released its first promotional video.

The marketing effort, which runs for about two and half minutes, shows some of the main features of the Galaxy K Zoom. As one can expect, the clip highlights the 20.7 megapixel rear camera and its features such as 10x optical zoom, the Xenon flash and the Selfie alarm. Read more »

Samsung has been running an aggressive marketing campaign in the UK for a while now, but this is pretty big even for the Korean giant. The company is renaming Terminal 5 at Heathrow airport to “Terminal Galaxy S5″ in its latest attempt to push its latest flagship into the spotlight.

Everything over at Terminal 5 will sport a piece of Galaxy S5 marketing – wayfinding boards, lounges, security at the gates, all 172 digital screens as well as the terminal’s website. Schools in the US are running scalable 1:1 computing initiatives and Samsung created a tablet just for them. It’s based on the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 but adds Google for Education support and a rugged chassis. The tablet is aimed at K-12 schools and the tougher exterior will be needed, especially in the lower grades.

Google offers a web console (asking $30 per device) that allows school IT personnel to quickly set up a large number of tablets. Read more »

Apple has released an update to OS X Mavericks that brings the version number to 10.9.3. The update is now available to download through the Mac App Store.

One of the major changes in this update is improved support for 4K monitors. What this means is that now if you connect a 4K monitor to a compatible Mac (the 2013 Mac Pro or the 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display) you will get the HiDPI ‘Retina’ option instead of standard 1:1 scaling. Sony has announced the third model in the popular and fantastic RX series of Cyber-shot cameras, the RX100 III. The RX100 III features the same compact design as its predecessors but turns everything else up to eleven.

Inside, the RX100 III has the same 20.2 megapixel 1.0-type backside illuminated CMOS sensor from the RX100 II but it combines it with a brand new lens and processor. The lens is now a 24-70mm instead of the 28-100mm on the previous two models but more importantly now has an aperture range of F1.8-F2.8 instead of F1.8-F4.9. Read more »
