The Earin headset has the the first truly cordless earbuds in the world, but needs your help to take off

A small company made out of former Sony Ericsson and Nokia engineers are working on the world’s smallest wireless earbuds and they’re calling them Earin. The company has decided to fund the manufacturing of the Earin with a Kickstarter campaign.

Unlike those other earbuds, which are merely posing as wireless, but still have a wire between them (I am looking at you JayBird BlueBuds X), Earin are true to their name. Read more »

Cortana coming soon to Windows Phones in the UK and China

Group Program Manager for Microsoft’s Cortana virtual assistant Marcus Ash confirmed over Twitter today that the popular feature will be coming to users in China and the UK in the coming weeks.

In general, mobile virtual assistants are severely limited by the Chinese government in terms of what they can do, but if Cortana is able to get an unfiltered release there, it could spell a significant advantage for Windows Phone in the world’s fastest-growing smartphone market. Read more »

Lenovo Yoga Tablets get the Android 4.4 KitKat treatment

Some time ago Lenovo previously announced it will roll out official Android KitKat updates for its 8″ and 10″ Yoga Tablets in June. Well, it is June already and the updates have indeed began seeding to the Yoga slates out there.

You can now get Android 4.4 KitKat for the Yoga Tablet 8 over the air. It is about 450MB big and will bring new dialer, messaging, clock apps plus refreshed notification area. Some of the Lenovo’s exclusive apps will are also getting an UI overhaul. Read more »

Microsoft Mobile now owns PureView, Lumia and ClearBlack brand names

Over the years Nokia has done alright for itself and established some well-known trademarks in the tech world. PureView is now synonymous with great camera performance, ClearBlack denotes great display hardware and Asha was Nokia’s dumb phone name while Lumia is the name of the best-selling Windows Phones by Nokia.

After Microsoft bought Nokia and transformed it into Microsoft Mobile, there were questions whether Microsoft will gain those famous Nokia trademarks or not. To blow away the mist of the unknown PureView, Lumia, Asha, ClearBlack, Surge and Mural brand names are now all owned by Microsoft Mobile. Read more »

Towelroot gives one-click root access to AT&T and Verizon Galaxy S5

Notable software developer George Hotz or ‘geohot’, known for jailbreaking the iPhone and the PS3 console (for which he even got sued by Sony) has developed a new one-click root app for the AT&T and Verizon Galaxy S5.

Called Towelroot, the app will let you root your Galaxy S5 simply by clicking on one button. Although the app is designed specifically for the Galaxy S5, geohot says it will also work with almost any phone with a kernel built before June 3 (prior to Android 4.4.3). Read more »

OnePlus confirms the One is not waterproof

A few days ago a guy made a video showing him dipping his OnePlus One in shallow water for a few seconds, after which he immediately concluded that the phone is waterproof and the internet simply chose to believe him, as it is ought to.

To set the record straight, Android Police contacted OnePlus regarding the phone, and the company confirmed that the phone indeed is not waterproof and any damage caused due to water won’t be covered by the warranty. Read more »

Apple CEO Tim Cook not so “hands-on” with iWatch

Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs was known to be a pedantic perfectionist when it came to the design of his company’s products: he was a very hands-on guy.

CEO Tim Cook doesn’t seem to have this trait, however, as stated in a New York Times profile piece, and that he was more concerned with the “broader implications” of Apple’s products. The article did have some rumors about what this could mean for the iWatch, Apple’s upcoming wearable. Read more »

One of the most noteworthy features of the Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G is its beefy 3,990 mAh battery. The Chinese manufacturer boasts that the phablet has battery big enough to charge other phones too via a dedicated cable.

The current champion of our battery test, Nokia Lumia 1520 managed achieved the whopping endurance rating of 107h with a 3,400 mAh battery and more demanding hardware on board. As a result, our expectations towards the Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G are quite high. Read more »

‘Angry Birds Epic’ for iOS, Android and Windows Phone game review

There is no doubt that Angry Birds is to Rovio what Mario is to Nintendo and Sonic is to SEGA. The company has tried to dabble with other IPs in the past but hasn’t had the same level of success so it keeps going back to the Angry Birds well.

After countless Angry Birds games based on the same original formula, Rovio has tried to diversify it a bit recently, starting with Angry Birds Go, which was a kart racing game (*cough* Mario Kart *cough* Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing *cough*). AT&T customer records compromised

AT&T mobility customers have been receiving emails informing them that a data breach occurred between April 9th and 21st, and that their data was vulnerable during this time.

The culprit wasn’t mentioned, just that it was a third-party source “[that] violated security protocols and accessed customer data.” Read more »
