OnePlus confirms the One is not waterproof

A few days ago a guy made a video showing him dipping his OnePlus One in shallow water for a few seconds, after which he immediately concluded that the phone is waterproof and the internet simply chose to believe him, as it is ought to.

To set the record straight, Android Police contacted OnePlus regarding the phone, and the company confirmed that the phone indeed is not waterproof and any damage caused due to water won’t be covered by the warranty.

For the record, most phones can handle some amount of water for a short period of time. A bit of drizzle is usually no problem at all and if you saw some of the videos in the past where phones were dropped and dipped in water, even a simple Galaxy S4 or an iPhone 5 can survive under water for a few seconds and then work just fine afterwards. It’s only when the devices stay underwater for an extended period of time is when the water makes its way to the important bits and fries the circuits. This is where the waterproofing comes in and even then it is only applicable till a certain depth and for a certain amount of time.

It’s a good thing that the OnePlus One can survive for some time in water but if you manage to get your hands on one, try to avoid getting it wet. You might not be as lucky as this guy.
