Windows tablets are aggressively coming down in price, having reached the $100 / €100 mark. The Emdoor EM-i8080 packs surprisingly good specs for one Ben Franklin, but also some disappointing compromises.

Google has released an update for the YouTube app on Android. The only major change is that you can now choose what resolution you stream the video at rather than have the app select it for you.

Now, when you click on the menu button in the video and tap on the gear icon, you will get a list of resolution options, from the eye-watering 144p all the way to 1080p. The max resolution will depend upon the video, of course. Even if you do come across a 4K video, however, the max setting is still 1080p. Read more »

Pebble has issued a new firmware update (version 2.2) for its smartwatch that introduces some important new features like rearranging the apps in your Launcher Menu. You also get volume control in the Music app, which has also been redesigned with a better layout, alarm vibrations that go for more than 60 seconds and the usual bug fixes and stability improvements.

The update is seeding as we speak. You can check for it through your Pebble smartphone app but keep in mind that it may take time to get to your device – one of more than 400 thousand units. Read more »

Apple will soon be introducing a new MFI (Made for iPhone) specification that will allow headphone manufacturers to make headphones using a Lightning connector instead of the standard 3.5mm jack.

Right now, the Lightning connector already supports audio in/out, which is how sound docks work, but to be able to make headphones for it, manufacturers need that particular specification from Apple which allows them to go forward. Read more »

It’s happened to all of us – searching on Google on our mobile devices, tapping an article result and getting redirected to the website’s mobile homepage instead of the article we wanted. Well Google’s noticed and will start flagging such faulty links in its English results in the US so that we know before we tap.

But aside from leaving a comment – “May open the site’s homepage” – Google will still give you a Try anyway button if you’re eager to tread into the unknown. We hope the new feature makes its way outside of the US soon. Read more »

Apple has a new ad out and it shows us that amid all these fitness-tracking-minded smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and accessories like the Gear 2 and Gear Fit the iPhone 5s remains a powerful tool for managing your daily workout.

The ad displays people doing various workouts and sports using a myriad of apps and accessories like the Zepp golf sensor and Adidas’ miCoach smart ball. Apple tells us that we’re more powerful than we think and helps get the point across by using an old sport-motivational song in Robert Preston’s “Chicken Fat”. Read more »

The Panasonic HC800 sits on top of the Japanese manufacturer’s range of headphones in the United States. At a quick glance, the over-ear, noise cancelling headset is designed primarily with iPhone and iPad-toting road warriors in mind.

In regards to headphones, Panasonic has established a reputation for offering high-quality, keenly-priced headsets. The HC800 appears to fit the same mold as its price tag undercuts some of the heavy hitters in the segment. Read more »

Imangi studios, the developer behind the super popular endless runner series Temple Run, had a cool milestone to share today. Its titles have reached 1 billion downloads across the platforms where they are available.

The company includes both versions of Temple Run in the number, but not the Disney spin-offs Brave and Oz. All games are available on what are currently the top three smartphone platforms – Android, iOS and Windows Phone. Some of the titles also have BlackBerry 10 and Windows RT versions. Read more »

The trickle of information about the LG G Watch continues and not always from official sources – despite having scheduled the smartwatch for a launch next month there are still large parts of its spec sheet that are unclear, including the chipset.

Right from the get go LG unveiled the watch will have 512MB RAM, but a leaked firmware image has offered a wealth of information including a quad-core processor. Read more »

AirPlay is one of the easiest ways to send media content from your Mac or iOS device to your Apple TV. However, it requires both the device as well as the Apple TV to first be on the same network. This is fine for when you’re at home but so convenient when you’re trying to show something on someone else’s Apple TV.

Apple has removed that limitation with the new iOS 8. Now, your device will connect directly to an Apple TV without having to connect first to the Wi-Fi network.
