14% of people would pick up an Apple iWatch if it were priced at $350

According to a poll performed by investment firm Piper Jaffray, 14% of people would buy Apple’s upcoming iWatch. This, however, has assumed a $350 price for the wearable.

Panasonic unveils a couple of extremely rugged 5-inch tablets

A 5-inch tablet might seem rather odd in this day and age, but Panasonic has just announced two of them. One runs Android, the other is powered by Windows 8.1 Embedded Handheld, and they’re both extremely expensive.

On the other hand, they’re also both incredibly rugged, being able to withstand drops onto concrete from up to ten feet. In fact, they go beyond even the military standard MIL-STD-810G in terms of how resistant they are to the elements or accidents. Read more »

Nokia X software platform 2.0 is based on Android 4.3

Nokia unveiled the X2 smartphone earlier today, which is powered by the company’s X software platform version 2.0. A little known fact is that this is based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The first iteration of Nokia’s fork of Android, seen in such devices like the original X, the X+, and the XL, was based on the much older Android 4.1 Jelly Bean code. Read more »

Android more than doubles app revenue in a year, narrows gap to iOS

Opera will be the default browser on the Nokia X phones

Opera has a long-standing partnership with Nokia to provide a browser for its phones – it used to be Opera Mini on Series 40 nowadays it’s the full-fledged Opera Mobile on the Nokia X platform (Nokia’s premium WP platform is of course serviced by IE).

Nokia X2 official hands-on video gives you a tour of the new features

With the Nokia X2 now official, the company has published an official hands-on video of the phone to give potential customers a better idea of what it’s like.

The X2 packs a 4.3″ ClearBlack LCD display, a Snapdragon 200 chipset with a 1.2GHz dual-core Cortex-A7 CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 5MP camera on the back. The video doesn’t focus on the hardware specs, but rather on the new software additions. Read more »

Aviate launcher now available on the Play Store

Yahoo! owned Aviate launcher for Android has been around for some time now but so far it was in the beta stage and more importantly, was only available through invites. The launcher is now available on the Play Store for free for anyone with a supported device to download.

The Aviate launcher has a different appearance than most other Android launchers that mimic the look of the stock launcher. There are no multiple blank homescreens for you to fill with icons or widgets. There are three screens, the leftmost showing your Today view (by default), the middle one showing five of your most used apps (that you chose) and the right one showing other apps that are grouped in different categories.
