Google will soon be shutting down two useful Chrome features In February. The first is the highly useful Chrome to Mobile extension for Chrome, which allowed you to push any open page in Chrome directly to the Chrome mobile browser. Print to My Phone is part of Google Cloud Print and worked similarly to Chrome to Mobile.

Google mentions on its support page that both the services will be shut down early February 2015 and that users should instead switch over to Chrome Tab Sync. While tab sync works, it’s not instant the way Chrome to Mobile was, where you have to open the mobile browser and wait for it to finish the background sync before your open tabs appear in the browser. MediaTek seems to be gathering increasing support from device manufacturers and users all around. The Taiwanese chip maker used to mainly target the budget segment, but recent CPU MT CPUs have been performing admirably on mid-ranged devices and beyond.

A rather interesting roadmap graphic surfaced on the Chinese social network Weibo, supposedly revealing the company’s plans from the upcoming year in terms of chip production. Today Asus launched a new tablet in the Indian market. It’s the Fonepad 8, model number FE380CG, which was originally unveiled last June. Not only has it been introduced in the subcontinent, but it’s already available to buy.

The Skype app for Windows Phone is getting a new update today, which should be live soon in Microsoft’s app store. Aside from the usual bug fixes and unspecified improvements, the new version of the app comes with one feature that’s been much requested by Windows Phone users: a compact mode.

Simply put, this makes fonts and messages smaller inside Skype. So, whereas before you could see a maximum of five contacts at a time, from now on you’ll get at least six on one screen. Read more »

Microsoft’s latest smartphone carries the model name RM-1099 and has successfully passed certification in Indonesia. However, unlike other certification processes like TENAA in China and FCC in the US, the Indonesian authorities don’t reveal any details regarding the product.

Samsung’s smartphone manager Kies suite for PC and Mac is about to get a major overhaul, as noted by a development cited by SamMobile. The suite is going to be redesigned to be more inline with the company’s TouchWiz look for the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

The deepening dispute between the US and Russia over Crimea has started affecting the tech world, as Apple has begun sending notices of termination to Registered Apple Developers (RAD) residing in the disputed region, a move that will prevent them from publishing apps in the App Store.

“The new sanctions on the Crimea Region announced by the US Government on December 19, 2014 and announced by the European Commission on December 18, 2014 prohibit the continuation of the RAD Agreement between you and Apple,” the Cupertino-based company said in the notice. “For more information, please review Executive Order 13685 and the European Commission Notice.” Read more »

Hutchison Whampoa, which owns British carrier Three UK, is considering a purchase of Telefonica’s O2 UK for around 9 billion pounds ($13.6 billion), according to a report from The Sunday Times, which also notes that talks are at an early stage, and nothing is yet confirmed.

A deal makes sense for both companies given that Hutchison is looking to expand in Europe, while Telefonica is in need of cash to help pay down its debts. The latter even came close to selling O2 UK to BT last year, but the deal didn’t go through as the telecommunications giant eventually agreed to acquire EE. Read more »
