Google has released the latest version of the desktop Chrome browser, which brings it to version 21.0.1180.60. One of the two important features is the support for the Retina display on the new MacBook Pro. This feature was so far available on the beta version but now those who use the stable release can take advantage of it as well.
Another feature that was only available on the beta version before is support for a camera and microphone. Now thanks to addition of the getUserMedia API, websites will finally have access to your webcam (if you allow them), which will let you use services like Webcam Toy, Magic Xylophone and Sketchbots, to name a few. Soon after Apple released Mountain Lion upon the world, a little known software called Safari for Windows disappeared from the face of the Earth. Or to be more precise, from Apple’s website.

The feedback we got back there was great and we are pleased to say that it has been pretty smooth sailing ever since.
Virtually all of you opt to stick to the mobile version, when visiting our website from your mobile phone (tablets get the desktop version by default). That alone confirms that our coders and designers did a great job and the mobile GSMArena.com is serving its purpose well.

Google has released Chrome 20 for download hours after the end of the Day 2 keynote at Google I/O.
The new version of the Webkit browser comes with ‘hundreds of bugs’ fixed and updated HTML5 and JavaScript support. Additionally, a bug resulting in kernel panic on Macbooks carrying Intel HD 4000 videocards has been fixed as well. Read more »
No, this is not the big announcement Mozilla will be making at tomorrow’s Google I/O, although judging by the new features, it easily might have been.
Instead, Mozilla has ditched the Beta and launched v.14.0 of its native Firefox browser for Android. Just as usual, some bugs are squashed and stability is improved, but most notably, the look of the browser UI has changed. Read more »
Mozilla is cooking something big, according to their Twitter teasing a major Firefox update on Android. At least that’s what it looks like.
There are virtually no indications on what the ‘something BIG’ part might be, but judging from the not so many Firefox goodies the browser has seen on Android, it’s safe to assume the announcement is in this ballpark.
Dolphin has released a new version of its popular Dolphin Browser HD for Android. The browser, currently in beta state and available only from the official website, uses a new version of the Dolphin Engine, which it claims makes it the highest performing HTML5 browser available today, not just on mobile but on any platform.
Its main claim to fame is the absurdly high HTML5 test score, where it scores an astounding 450 points (plus 3 bonus points), more than any other browser that is currently available, including those on desktop. Dolphin says it has paid special attention to canvas elements, 2D context and text rendering and that the Dolphin Engine made significant GPU technology improvements around GPU accelerated canvas rendering and optimized CPU / GPU parallel computing. Mozilla are always toying with new designs for a web browser – their latest effort is called ‘Junior’ and is a browser prototype for the iPad with a design that’s a clean break from the standard Safari browser.
Mozilla created Junior because even though, according to them, the iPad offers the best browsing experience on a tablet, it’s still “miserable”. Read more »
Opera released the latest version of its desktop browser, Opera 12, which brings support for themes. Setting a new theme for your Opera browser will add a new background image on the speed dial and new tab page and would also change the colors the tab bar and the browser chrome.
It’s not a terribly unique feature, with both Firefox and Chrome being able to do this for a long time now but it’s good to see it arrive on Opera as well and the implementation is actually pretty good. The few themes available on Opera’s site also look pretty good. Read more »
Mozilla is launching Firefox 13 via its regular Release channel today and has packed it with new features deeming it a “landmark release”.
One of the first things you’ll notice when firing Firefox 13 for the first time is the all-new start page. As before, it’s minimalist in design, but now features a new navigation bar, allowing you to access your Downloads, Bookmarks, History, Add-ons, Sync and Settings. Read more »
The world’s most popular mobile browser, Opera Mini, has now been updated to version 7 and brings the new Smart Page feature. What this does is brings all your news and updates from your social networks onto a single page.
Once you install the browser, you will notice a new Home tab. Here you will see your bookmarks, the news feeds you have subscribed to and updates from social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Read more »
Mozilla has released a new beta version of the Firefox browser for Android and it brings with it some major changes. The biggest one of all is that the app is written in Java, which is native to Android, instead of the Mozilla developed XUL used on the previous versions. Due to this, you can expect some major improvements in the performance of the app.
Other big change is the new UI, which looks a lot better. It has what Mozilla calls the ‘Awesome Screen’. It’s very similar to the screen you see in Chrome for Android, with the address bar at the top, thumbnails for frequently visited sites below and right at the bottom a list of recently closed tabs. Apple has released two new updates today, one for OS X Lion and the other for the desktop Safari browser. The OS X update brings Lion to 10.7.4 and includes some crucial security fixes.
Recently OS X came under fire when the OS would display FileVault passwords in plain text file for users who upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and kept their FileVault settings. The issue has now been patched in the latest update. Read more »
If you are a Windows Phone user you are probably familiar with how the Marketplace works. In case you don’t want to browse apps from your Marketplace app on your phone you could only check them out via Zune or some third-party service.
That’s why last September Microsoft launched the Web Marketplace where you can browse and purchase apps directly from your browser. It’s a neat feature, much like the one Android users have been enjoying for a while now. Read more »
