3G Nexus 7 said to arrive in around six weeks

The Nexus 7 is pretty much the best Android tablet available in the market right because it does so much for so little. But in order to reach that low price point some compromises had to be made, which included having no 3G connectivity at launch.

But it seems that will soon be remedied, as apparently a 3G model of the Nexus 7 is on its way. According to Paul O’Brien at MoDaCo, a 3G version of the Nexus 7 will launching in six weeks from now. The rest of the specifications are said to be identical to the current Nexus 7 tablet. Read more »

HP announces Envy X2 Windows 8 tablet with keyboard dock, we take it for a spin

HP’s most interesting announcement at IFA this year is the Envy X2 – a Windows 8-based tablet with a keyboard dock.

The Envy X2 slate features an 11.6-inch IPS touchscreen with 400-nit brightness and 1366x768px resolution. It’s powered by Intel’s Clover Trail processor and comes with 8MP camera and 64GB internal memory. There is support for Beats Audio as well. Read more »

However, this time the folks at Samsung have decided to go away from the usual format. Instead, they have opted for a fully blown hands-on treatment of the latest Galaxy powerhouse.

Samsung has been keen to point out its commitment to the Windows 8 platform recently and the freshly-announced Ativ Tab is the proof that it wasn’t just PR talk. What’s more, based on our first impressions of the slate, the company might become a major player in the Windows tablet game.

The Ativ Tab is built around a 10.1″ IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and 400-nits of brightness. It’s powered by a Snapdragon S4 APQ8060a chipset, featuring a 1.5GHz dual-core Krait CPU and 2GB of RAM. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 gets Android 4.0 update in the US

Samsung has started rolling out the Android 4.0.4 update for the Galaxy Tab 8.9 in the US. The update is 313.96MB in size and brings with it a newer version of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, along with the usual Android 4.0 features.

To download the update, either connect the device to your computer and download through Kies or just head over to the Settings app and download the update OTA. Read more »

Samsung announces a trio Windows 8 tablets – meet the ATIV Tab, ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro

Alongside the Windows Phone 8-running ATIV S smartphone, Samsung also announced three Windows 8-powered slates – the 10.1″ ATIV Tab and the 11.6″ ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro.

The latter duo will be coming with detachable keyboards with touchpads, just like the ASUS Transformer tablet, and S Pen-support. Read more »

Sony Xperia Tablet S unveiled – thinner wedge design, Tegra 3 chipset and Android ICS

Sony announced its second-generation tablet at its pre-IFA event – meet the new Sony Xperia Tablet S. It features the same 9.4″ screen (1280 x 800) and wedge design as its predecessor, but the has gotten both thinner and more powerful.

Where its predecessor was between 10.1mm and 20.6mm thick, the new one measures 8.8mm-11.9mm. The tablet is made from a Magnesium-Aluminum alloy and weighs 570g. Read more »

Archos GamePad combines 7″ Android ICS tablet with hardware gaming controls

Archos has put Android to use into some unusual devices (e.g. a home phone and an alarm clock), but now it has turned its attention to mobile gaming with the Archos GamePad. The GamePad has a 7″ screen (though details like resolution are missing right now) and a set of hardware controls.

The tablet is powered by a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and a quad-core Mali-400 GPU. The OS is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which has built-in support for game controllers, but Archos has also included a technology that automatically maps the game inputs on the hardware controls and claim it supports over a thousand currently available games. An as-yet-unnamed 10″ tablet from HTC just leaked, showing off a rather unconventional design.

Google advertises the Nexus 7 tablet on its homepage

With the slate’s availability expanding even further, Google has featured an ad for the Nexus 7 on its homepage. The ASUS made tablet joins the likes of the T-Mobile G1, Nexus 1, Nexus S, Motorola Droid, as well as the Google Chrome browser as part of the elite club of products, which have been advertised on Google.com.

The ad for the Google Nexus 7 is quite catchy. For about a second after you open Google’s main page, nothing happens. Read more »
