Well, there’s no iPhone 5, just the 4S. But what of the older models? In a surprising move, Apple decided not to deprecate the 3GS, which puts the number of iPhone models currently available to three.
First of all, the iPhone 4 was just put in the “old” category and it will remain in the portfolio only in its 8GB version. Read more »
Apple adds a new accessory to its portfolio – the iPhone microUSB adapter. It does just what it says on the box – allows you to use standard microUSB cables and chargers with your iPhone both for syncing(!) and charging.
The unveiling of such a gadget might not seem so surprising at first look, but it actually represents an end of an era where Apple’s closed eco system relied solely on proprietary hardware and peripherals to run and interconnect. Read more »
Siri is now an integral part of the iPhone 4S. It’s supposed to do a lot of stuff for you, among which, answer any question you may come up with. You can ask about anything – the weather, movies, restaurants, news, etc. and providing you have an intelligent question, it should get you a reasonably intelligent answer quickly and in the right context.
But Siri is not just an intelligent voice search system. It can also read your messages, emails, notifications for you. Siri has dictate functionality too – you speak and it writes messages, notes, remainders, etc. Read more »
You couldn’t have missed it – the Internet almost collapsed under the pressure of people who wanted to see the next smartphone from Apple. Well, the announcement is over so here’s a list of countries that will get the iPhone 4S first.
Tim Cook says “This will be the fastest iPhone rollout we’ve ever had”. It will happen in three waves of announced launches. The first starts on October 14th (with pre-orders taking place from the 7th onwards), here are the lucky countries: Read more »
In spite of the never-ending rumors that flooded us like torrential rain in the past weeks, Apple didn’t announce the highly anticipated iPhone 5 with its rumored 4-inch screen and new slimmer body. Unfortunately for Apple, this is having a negative effect on many of their shareholders.
It appears that the newly introduced Apple iPhone 4S isn’t what shareholders were hoping to see at this evening’s Apple event. The shares of the company took quite a plunge after the announcement, currently selling at 5% lower than their opening rate today.
So, Apple has just announced the next iPhone – 4S – with big improvements in the camera department. The iPhone 4S packs an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and 1080p camcorder. But that’s just the beginning.
First you get lots of new technology improvements – back-illuminated sensor with 5 elements lens, F/2.4 aperture, hybrid IR filter, etc. So, all this new stuff will get you better colors, better noise performance, more sharpness and better white balance. There is face detection and the HDR feature is present too along with an AE/AF lock.
But the iPhone 4S has lots of (cameraphone) competitors already available, so it needs to do better. According to Apple, the iPhone 4S camera might just be the fastest cameraphone around. We have to see if it is the best for real, but we get some really impressive times for the first photo and shot-to-shot. Read more »
It’s time to shed any remaining doubt about the iPhone 4S (not that there was much left). Images from Apple’s own website show the black and white 4S model (the file name clearly says “4s”), that is practically indistinguishable from the iPhone 4.
However, have a closer look at the icon just above the “Phone” app. It’s the Newsstand app, which is a part of iOS5 – the OS that the 4S will launch with. Read more »

The HTC Explorer is one of the strongest soldiers in the Android squad dispatched to storm the low-end and as such it’s no wonder that it’s getting some special attention. Its manufacturer just released a cool video promo of the affordable smartphone, which does a pretty good job of summing up its key features.
The HTC Explorer isn’t a smartphone to impress you with a gazillion megahertz CPU or an umpteen megapixel camera – that’s a task for the Sensation to handle. With the little one it’s all about simplicity of use, intuitiveness and easy personalization that will attract new smartphone adopters. Read more »
The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S just arrived in our office and it promised to stay around for a full review. What’s even better is that we got the latest and greatest Xperia smartphone in two different flavors – white and black.
The arc S is actually pretty similar to its predecessor, but for a couple of key differences. On the hardware side of things you get the higher processor clock – 1.4GHz, which should improve performance even further, while on the software side the Xperia arc S offers Android 2.3.4 out of the box. In about 24 hours the recently appointed Apple CEO Tim Cook is going to hit the stage at Apple’s Campus in Cupertino and, as the invitation for the event suggests, he is going to talk iPhone.
Over the last couple of weeks the Internet has been overflowing with rumors about how many iPhones will the company actually announce. Although the invitation that Apple sent out suggested that only one phone will be revealed, there are is compelling evidence that we should expect two separate devices coming later in the fall.
Surely the news from a few days ago about Nokia working on a Linux-based OS to replace the S40 UI was really good stuff. Unfortunately, the rumored Meltemi project is not an S40 replacement.
As it turned out, the Meltemi is the codename for the Windows Phone project, so the Meltemi is actually no news. Here is why: Read more »

Following the introduction of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, Microsoft have dubbed the next iteration of their mobile platform ‘Apollo’ and they’ve taken to asking their users as to what features they would like to see as the OS develops.
For starters, it’s great to see Microsoft taking this approach, if you’re in camp Android but have used iOS or WP7, you might have found that restrictive elements of both OS’s intrude on your general phone usage from time to time. Read more »
