Intel adding Android support to its Atom E6xx processor in January

by 3 comments

Intel’s Atom E6xx series of processors will have Android Gingerbread support and that’s coming in January, 2012. This was uncovered in a video by the world’s largest semiconductor maker, detailing the Atom processor. This means that we may see Android 2.3 ported on all kinds of Atom-based devices like netbooks, tablets and more.

Intel is a high-class player in the CPU business but smartphones are a closed ARM gang and competition will be steep. Not to mention that the timing isn’t exactly perfect as Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in the October/November period Gingerbread will hardly be hot stuff in January 2012. ICS is rumored to bring the best of Android for handhelds and tablets into one awesome OS and it makes more sense for it to be supported instead of Gingerbread. Read more »

by 28 comments

Has this photo been taken with the next-gen iPhone?

by 94 comments

The next iPhone is maybe only days away from an official launch (here’s hoping) and the hype levels are through the roof. That’s why even minor news, concerning the upcoming Apple smartphone are greeted with quite a lot of excitement. Like this one – you might be a few seconds away from seeing the first photo captured with the iPhone 5.

The photo EXIF says that it has been created with an iPhone 4, but its resolution is 2235×2291 (around 5.12 megapixels), which is more than the iPhone 4 can capture. Plus the rectangular aspect suggests that the image has been cropped, possibly from a 3264×2448 pixels original -8 megapixels. The other clue is the lens specs, which are listed in the EXIF file as 4.3mm f/2.4, which is not even close to the current iPhone’s 3.85mm f/2.8. Read more »

by 7 comments

Samsung has announced an LTE version of their popular Galaxy S II smartphone as well as the Galaxy Tab 8.9. The Galaxy S II LTE will feature an updated hardware, where the CPU clock speed will be bumped to 1.5GHz from the 1.2GHz on the current model and the display will be taken to 4.5-inch from the 4.3-inch on the standard Galaxy S II.

The LTE model will be launched in Europe in the second quarter of 2012 on T-Mobile’s network. The delay is due to the fact that T-Mobile’s LTE network is currently not equipped to handle voice calls. Also, the device itself is not ready to go on sale at the moment. Read more »

HTC Titan and Radar prices revealed, seems quite high

by 24 comments

HTC Titan and Radar were officially announced yesterday at a public event that we covered live for you. And while that did give us most pieces of the puzzle, one of the most important ones was missing – we knew nothing about the pricing of either WP7 smartphone.

Now we hear that an HTC representative went on record saying that the HTC Titan will cost €609 ($868), while HTC radar will go for €399 ($569). Granted, those are European prices (German, to be specific), and they include 19% VAT, but they still seem a bit too high to us. Read more »

HTC Titan features in a bunch of ads, makes you want it even more

by 16 comments

Just like the HTC Radar earlier today, the HTC Titan just got to star in a bunch of ads published on its manufacturer’s website. The WP7 Mango smartphone with a 4.7″ screen is unsurprisingly looking pretty hot in the four videos that you are about to see.

Actually those videos cover pretty much the same bases as the HTC Radar ads, but for one exception. The Taiwanese company obviously thinks that the Titan will be more skilled at multitasking than its smaller-screen’d sibling and with a 1.5GHz CPU we can see where this is coming from. Read more »

by 19 comments

With all the fuss around the pre-IFA announcements today we almost forgot to introduce you to a dear guests we had at our office. The Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman Android smartphone came by and while it refused to stick around for a preview, it at least posed for a bunch of live shots.

Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman

Not that a preview of the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman is so vital. The hour or so we spent with it almost entirely convinced us that this is simply a Sony Ericsson Xperia mini with a slightly larger screen and a Walkman button. Read more »
