Unfazed by the lackluster demand for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, Samsung is (ahem) gearing towards launching its successor. And it seems there are going to be not one but two new Galaxy Gear smartwatches this year.
Evleaks just tweeted a photo of two new Samsung smartwatches that look quite similar to the current Galaxy Gear, called Galaxy Gear 2 and Galaxy Gear 2 Neo. Taking Samsung’s recent naming convention into consideration, the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo is bound to be simpler of the two new watches with more aggressive pricing.
From the low resolution image it’s hard to tell if thing above the display is a camera or not. The current Galaxy Gear has a pretty prominent camera hump on it so if these are cameras then they are significantly smaller than before. There’s also what looks like a Home button below the display. Samsung does love the Home buttons but it’s unexpected to see it on a watch. The UI on the display looks similar to the current one.
More details on these as they arrive.
Update: Evleaks is now saying that these watches are not Galaxy branded. So it seems Samsung is presumably just going to run with the Gear branding.
