We got the chance to snap a few shots with the Samsung Galaxy S4 camera at the smartphone’s announcement event in New York and are rushing to share them with you guys.

By now it’s all but official that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa chipset, featuring 4 Cortex-A15 cores to do the heavy lifting and 4 Cortex-A7 cores, which kick in for less demanding tasks and save power. Thankfully, we were also able to get an idea of its performance thanks to the benchmark tests in the early review that just leaked.
Exynos 5410 Octa employs ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture with its Cortex-A15 CPU quartet clocked at 1.8GHz and theCortex-A7 cores running at 1.2GHz. It certainly looks like a combo ready to be a benchmark champion, but it turns out that its software is unable to keep up with it just yet. Read more »

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 has been exclusive to Amazon US ever since it was released last September. Fortunately, today Amazon is finally ready to expand the tablet’s availability. As of today, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is available at Amazon in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan.
Another positive change is that the US prices are lower now, down to $269 (16GB) and $300 (32GB). In Europe, the tablet costs €269 and €299. All quoted prices are only valid under Amazon’s Special Offers program. Read more »
HTC One has just arrived at our office and is here to stay for a review. The HTC flagship is supposed to feature some advanced camera tech behind those 4 million+ ultrapixels, so the first thing we did was a quick impromptu shootout.
Unlike most of its competitors, the HTC One bets on fewer, but bigger size pixels on its image sensor, rather than many tiny ones. In theory this should allow it to shoot photos that have less digital noise and more dynamic range. But of course, you have got to remember that when you downsize a say, 13MP photo down to 4MP it also visibly decreases the digital noise.
Anyway, we would refrain from passing a judgement at this stage (we’ll save that for the full-featured review), but here are several comparison shots of the HTC One and the Sony Xperia Z, which has a rather densely packed 13MP camera sensor, featuring one of the smallest pixel sizes currently used in flagship products. Oppo, the Chinese manufacturer, has released the kernel source code of its Oppo Find 5 smartphone. This will surely attract interest from the developers and one can expect a slew of custom ROMs and kernels for the device to appear shortly.

The guys over at XDA developers have been working hard to get root access on the smartphone and after their initial success they have now managed to find an exploit that works even if the device’s bootloader is locked.
