Apple iPhone 5 bill of materials estimated at $199, still promises immense profits for Apple

Just like it did with the iPhone 4S, iSuppli has put up an preliminary estimate of the iPhone 5′s Bill of Materials (BOM).

According to the preliminary report, the iPhone 5 carries a BOM of just $199, while the manufacturing costs additional $8. This makes it just $11 more expensive than the iPhone 4S. Read more »

We already know that Apple spent quite a lot of time building the ARM-based A6 processor that powers the iPhone 5. It turns out the Cupertino-based company did a great job and its smartphone did pretty in GeekBenchmark, and now we learn that it absolutely smoked the competition when it comes to JavaScript benchmarking.

Naturally, prior to its announcement, the iPhone 5 was surrounded by hundreds of rumors. Somewhat unexpectedly though, this time round most of them turned out correct and we knew almost all there was to know about the latest Apple flagship, long before Tim Cook took the stage.

The amount of leaks of hardware parts and accessories as well as reports of iPhone 5′s features that turned out to be true was staggering. Today’s Apple event is not all about the new iPhone 5, as the company also announced the new, fifth-generation iPod Touch and the new iPod Nano.

The new iPod Touch now sports the same display used in the new iPhone 5 – a 4-inch Retina display with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, it’s got the iPhone 4S’ A5 chip inside, which Apple says provides up to seven times faster graphics than previous gen iPod Touch. Read more »

Apple accuses Polish online food store A.pl for trademark infringement, takes the matter to court

Apple has decided to sue Polish online supermarket A.pl over trademark issues. According to Polish website Telepolis, Apple has issued a request for the cancellation of the online food store’s trademark rights from Poland’s Patent Office.

The reason for Apple’s discontent is that A.pl’s brand and its sister company’s name logo (fresh24.pl) create a likelihood of confusion and may use Apple’s fame to its advantage. Read more »
