There are not a lot of games on the App Store that can fall under the ‘interactive comedy’ category. In fact, I’m pretty sure The Act is the only one of its kind right now.

The Act was originally launched as an arcade game back in 2007 but was later cancelled. It was then ported over to iOS and published by Chillingo Ltd. The game has been available on the App Store for a while now for $2.99 but is being sold for a dollar for a limited time, so we thought we should give it a try and see how this new method of gameplay is. The days of easily finding pirated content on the Internet are slowly be coming to an end. With the recent SOPA/PIPA and Megaupload fiasco, it’s clear that the powers that be are starting to crack down on the pirated content on the Internet by trying to shut down websites that provide them.

The latest move comes from Google, who have announced that they will now start downranking websites that receive valid copyright removal notices. The more notices a website receives, the lower the rank will be of these sites. Read more »

The ill-fated BlackBerry PlayBook recently got a new sibling in the form of the 4G LTE model that, apart from the data connectivity, also brought a faster 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

We reported back then that the tablet was supposed to go on sale in Canada sometime this month, and it has now hit retail. The 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook can now be purchased on Bell and Rogers in Canada for $350 and a three year contract. Read more »

The original Crysis game, which came out back in the distant 2007, is still used as a benchmark for graphics card performance. The graphics in that game were so ahead of their time that you’ll still find it difficult to run the game maxed out at high resolutions and get 60 fps (of course, not the least due to the game’s poor optimization).

Crysis 2 in comparison was nowhere near as taxing as the first one but with the DirectX 11 patch and high resolution texture pack for the PC it would still push your graphics card to its limits while delivering stunning visuals.

From the short trailers we had seen in the past we know the third iteration in the series was going to look even better. But now Crytek has released a new tech trailer for CryEngine 3 that demoes the various new visual effects in all their glory and should send lesser graphics cards running for cover. Read more »

The wait for the next generation Cortex A15-based processors is coming to an end as Samsung has just announced the world’s first SoC that will include a Cortex A15 CPU. Called the Exynos 5 Dual, this SoC has one laundry list of specifications that goes well beyond what other mobile processors offer currently and sets the stage for the next generation mobile devices.

The Exynos 5 Dual or the 5250 is based on the 32nm HKMG process, same as the current Exynos 4 Quad processor. It includes the new dual-core 1.7GHz Cortex A15 CPU along with a brand new Mali-T604 GPU, which is also produced by ARM. Read more »

One of the key features in Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is that it automatically encrypts paid applications with a device specific ID, which ensures an app downloaded on a device can only be used on that particular device. This was created to combat the rampant piracy that has been seen on the Android platform.

Nikon has unleashed two new cameras on the digital photography world. The first one is the newest member of the Nikon 1 family, which currently includes the V1 and the J1.

The J2 is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera that is mostly similar to the older J1 with minor modifications. Read more »

When Google introduced the Face Unlock feature in Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, it was quickly proven to be a failure due to the ease with which you could bypass it using a photograph.

With Android 4.1, Jelly Bean, Google added the option to make the user blink so as to avoid being duped by a simple photograph. But as it turns out, even that can be bypassed by using a digital image of the user and a simple trick using an image editor. Read more »
