Few months ago, a Canadian Samsung fan Shane Bennett contacted Samsung Canada on their Facebook account and asking for a free Galaxy S III because he has been a loyal customer of the brand for the past few years. In return for the phone, he attached a drawing of a fire breathing dragon that he drew.

Of course, you can’t get free things in return for drawings, which is why Samsung Canada politely declined but returned the gesture with a drawing of their own, a kangaroo on a unicycle. This led to a lot of positive publicity for Samsung after the image was posted on reddit and so eventually, they decided to not just invite Bennett to an exclusive Galaxy S III launch party but eventually send him a customized version of the phone, too. Mozilla has released yet another update for the Firefox browser for the desktop as well as for Android. The major change in the desktop browser is that it now supports silent, background updates, which means just like Chrome, Firefox will now download the latest updates in the background and install them without any user intervention.

Samsung has announced three new members of the Series 7 and Series 5 range of All-in-One (AIO) desktop computers running Windows 8. The Series 7 includes a 27-inch and a 23-inch model whereas the Series 5 includes a 21-inch model.

All three models come with a 10-point multi-touch display that supports the full range of gestures you find in Windows 8. They also all have a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Read more »

If you thought the Galaxy Note was big, wait till you get a load of this. Samsung has just announced the new Galaxy Player 5.8, where 5.8 is not just a random number but actually the size of the display. This should dwarf even the display on the upcoming Galaxy Note II, which is rumored to be around 5.5-inch in size.

Surprisingly, though, for something the size of a small country, the display has a resolution of just 960 x 540, giving it a pixel density of 190 ppi. Samsung has also dropped their favorite Super AMOLED in favor of LCD technology for this panel. Read more »

The Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin or IFA will commence by the end of this week and naturally a bevy of manufacturers will be displaying their latest and greatest this year at Berlin. With the event this close, you are bound to see some leaks and teasers and Samsung has just provided one of the latter.

The Lenovo IdeaPad A2109 has landed at Best Buy without much fanfare before the September 2012 launch date. The tablet is now in stock and can be purchased online or through brick and mortar stores for $299.99.

Google has expanded the availability of their Nexus 7 tablets to three additional markets. Users in France, Germany and Spain will now be able to purchase the Nexus 7 from the Google Play Store.

The 8GB model is priced at €199 ($249) and the 16GB model is priced at €249 ($312), which, as you can see, is a bit higher than what it costs in the US. Read more »

Samsung has launched its latest Android based tablet, the Galaxy Note 10.1, in India. As usual for Samsung, they have changed the name of the tablet to Galaxy Note 800 for the Indian market.

Other than the name, the Galaxy Note 800 is identical to the model sold internationally. However, it does come with a very hefty price tag. Samsung is selling the Note 800 in India for ₹39,900, which is approximately $720, an enormous $221 more than the international model that sells for $499. Read more »

Facebook has updated their mobile application for iOS, which brings with it significant improvement to the performance. Unlike the older version of the app that was based on HTML5, which, in other words, means that it was a simplified web browser loading the Facebook mobile website, the new version uses native code like most of the other apps out there.

What this means is that there is no more lag in scrolling and the performance is silky smooth, like that of one of the stock applications. Read more »

Google has released an update to the Chrome browser for iOS, which brings it to version 21.0.1180.77. The major change in this update is the inclusion of sharing option. Now you can tap the Share button in the drop down menu on the top right and it will give you options to share the page on Google+, email, Facebook and Twitter.

For email and Twitter the app pops up the built-in editing box and for Google+ and Facebook it launches the respective applications, if they are installed on the device. Otherwise it takes you to the App Store page to download them. Read more »

The Flickr app for Android has been around for a while now but thanks to its lackluster nature and the growing disinterest in the service itself means not a lot of people know or care about it.

That should change a bit with the release of the new version 1.5 app, which brings some new features along with an updated UI design, which should hopefully make people excited about using Flickr once again. Read more »

LG has launched the world’s first 84-inch ‘Ultra Definition’ 4K 3D TV in Korea, with plans to release in international markets soon. This gigantic panel has a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160, which is basically four times the resolution of a 1080p display.

The TV, which is named 84LM9600, comes with LG’s Cinema 3D and a whole bunch of other features with 3D in the name. You also get a pair of passive 3D glasses for viewing the 3D content. Read more »

The Skype application for iOS has been updated and now boasts the ability to let you send images to your contacts, something that you could only do through the desktop client before. There is no size limit on the images you upload so you can upload as big an image as you want, provided you have a suitable data plan.

Nikon has finally announced their first Android-based Coolpic S800c point and shoot camera. On the camera side, it comes with a 16 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, 10x optical zoom, 1080p video recording with stereo sound, 3.5-inch OLED touchscreen, EXPEED C2 processor, GPS and Wi-Fi.

On the Android side, it comes with Android 2.3, Gingerbread pre-installed. You may remember that in yesterday’s article I wrote that it seems unlikely that Nikon would put stock Gingerbread on a camera. Well, turns out there is more to it than that. Read more »
