Microsoft releases Windows 8 teaser ad

With the release of their next operating system release just over a week from now, Microsoft is working hard to advertise the product and create public awareness. If you’re in the US you may have already seen Surface ads all over the place by now.

Microsoft has now released an ad for Windows 8 that will air on national television, shortly followed by several others. It’s a teaser ad that quickly goes through some of the Windows 8 features, such as the new Modern UI, multi-touch functionality and the ability to run applications side by side. Read more »

Echofon releases alpha version of Echofon for Android

Echofon is a popular Twitter client that first started life as a Firefox extension but later was made into an iOS, OS X and Windows app. Now, an Android version of the application is being developed as well and to give you a taste on how things are going, the developers have released an alpha version of the app.

Reuters confirms Apple event on October 23, likely to be for the iPad mini

We reported couple of days ago that Apple will be holding an event on October 23 for the iPad mini. That information came courtesy the sources at AllThingsD.

Now Reuters have chimed in as well, confirming the exact same date for the next Apple event. The information comes from sources ‘familiar with the matter’. The sources did not mention what the event will be about exactly but it is fair to assume that it will be about the iPad mini. Read more »

‘Prince of Persia Classic’ for iOS and Android game review

Prince of Persia Classic is a remake of the original 1989 Prince of Persia that started it all. There have been couple of remakes of this game in the past for mobile, one by Gameloft and the other by Ubisoft but since then they have been removed and replaced with this one.

Shadowgun: DeadZone public beta now available for NVIDIA Tegra 3 devices

Madfinger has released the public beta of Shadowgun: DeadZone, a multiplayer version of the superb Shadowgun currently available on iOS and Android. Shadowgun: DeadZone is currently available for free (until the beta test lasts) and is only available on Android devices running NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset.

DeadZone is an exclusive, multi-player only version of the standard Shadowgun. You play in similar environments as Shadowgun but you now have multiple characters to choose from and instead of dumb AI enemies you will be against much tougher human ones. Read more »

Google releases new Play Store update, brings some much needed changes

Google has released v3.9.16 of the Play Store application for Android and with it come some useful new features. One of the new features is the ability to delete apps from your ‘All’ apps list within ‘My Apps’. Anyone who has been using Android for a while will know that this list is cluttered with useless apps that you only downloaded once and then deleted but are now permanently part of that list. Well, not anymore.

Applications in this list that are currently not installed on your device will now have a delete button next to them, so you can instantly remove them from the list. Moreover, you can now press and hold over these items and delete a whole bunch of them simultaneously. Read more »

Google+ app updated on iOS and Android

Google has pushed out a new update for their Google+ app on iOS and Android. One of the key new features in the iOS version is support for the iPhone 5 and iOS 6. Another new feature is Google+ page owners now being able to view, post and comment from the mobile app.

Lastly, you can also edit your posts, save photos to camera roll and search for people and posts on the iPad. Read more »

‘Rayman Jungle Run’ for iOS and Android game review

After launching the superb Rayman Origins on consoles and desktop last year, Ubisoft has brought our favorite disjointed character to the mobile platform. Rayman Jungle Run is the latest installment in the long running series of 2D platforming games and is the first game in the series to make an appearance on iOS and Android.

Rayman Jungle Run is not the same game as Rayman Origins, even though it uses similar artwork, but is a completely new game made from the grounds up for the mobile devices with a new control mechanism. Let’s see how it stacks up against the previous games in the series. Read more »

Sony has launched the new PlayStation Mobile store for the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Certified devices, which will let you purchase a game once and play across multiple supported devices.

The list of PlayStation Certified devices currently includes Xperia PLAY, Xperia arc, Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia SX, Xperia T, Xperia TX, Xperia V, Xperia ion, Xperia acro, Xperia acro S, Xperia acro HD, Sony Tablet S, Sony Tablet P, Xperia Tablet S, HTC One X, One X+, One S and One V. You currently have a choice of 20 games available and once purchased, you can play on up to three different devices with the same ID. Read more »

The Apple iPhone 5 launch hasn’t been the smoothest of rides. The phone has faced criticism for various reasons, including build quality, battery life and, most recently, camera performance.

Nokia releases Xpress for Lumia browser, compresses data by up to 90 percent

Nokia has released the beta version of a new browser called Xpress for Lumia that is based on the same principle as the browser on their Asha phones, which itself was based on the Opera Mini.

Duo Games and Gameloft announce Duo Gamer wireless controller for iOS devices

Duo Games, in collaboration with Gameloft, has announced a new wireless controller for your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Called the Duo Gamer, the set comes with a wireless controller as well as a dock for your iOS device.

The controller has six buttons on it (four on the front and two on the shoulder), two joysticks and a D-Pad. The dock uses a 30-pin connector and has an HDMI-out for connecting to a larger screen, if required. Read more »
