It seems RIM has been trying to get rid of their entire BlackBerry PlayBook stock and the emphasis today is on the 64GB version. Last week they had all models on promo prices ($199, $249 and $399 for 16GB, 32GB and 64GB respectively). Today, in a surprising move, we find the three models all equally priced at $299. Obviously, it’s only the 64GB version that has its price cut down from the original fire sale in December.

Facebook has just released the Messenger app for Windows 7. It’s been available for iOS and Android for some time too.

Most of the iOS devices are finally going to stay jailbroken with the new untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1. It works on every iOS 5-compatible gadgets but the A5-based ones (the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S).

The first ever released Curve with a touchscreen has made it to our office. The BlackBerry Curve 9380 is the latest RIM smartphone running on the OS 7. It’s quite similar with the Torch 9860, but comes with a smaller and low-res display.

The Curve 9380 packs a less-capable 800MHz processor, but offers variety of connectivity options – 3G with HSPA, Wi-Fi, GPS and even NFC. The camera is 5 megapixel fixed focus one and is capable of capturing VGA videos. Read more »

In case you’ve somehow missed the news, Peter Jackson is filming the prequel to The Lord of the Rings – The Hobbit. The book that this one is based on might be quite small – smaller than just The Fellowship of the Ring, but the movie obviously has a lot of action to offer.

That’s probably the reason why Peter Jackson decided to split the book into two movies, shot back to back as it was with The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will hit the cinemas worldwide in December 2012, while The Hobbit: There and Back Again is scheduled for December 2013 release. Read more »

The Xbox 360 fall update is coming tomorrow and it will bring tons of new stuff. But the first and most important change is the complete interface overhaul. Microsoft has put the Metro UI in charge.

It’s hardly a surprise to see the Metro UI here though – after all, it is Microsoft’s “all-in” both in the desktop and mobile versions of Windows. And I think the dashboard has never been so awesome. Read more »

Samsung S8600 Wave 3 is the first device to come with the latest 2.0 version of the Bada OS. It’s a worthy successor of the first ever released Wave – the S8500. The third generation comes with a bigger SuperAMOLED screen, a faster processor, a nice aluminium shell and a familiar design.

The key feature of the new Wave 3 is the Bada 2.0 ticking inside, which is quite different from the previous versions of the still young Samsung’s smart OS. But let’s take a look at the Wave 3 first. Read more »

Apple may not be successful at banning the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but it surely made Samsung’s job really hard. While the Australian court has just lifted the ban for the Galaxy Tab 10.1, Apple has filed a motion for banning the new modified Galaxy Tab 10.1N in Germany.

The news coming from Australia is good, but there is a catch – the ban will be lifted this Friday, eventually. This means Apple could appeal the court’s decision and maintain the tablet’s ban for a while. Read more »

Barnes&Noble has just announced an upgraded version of the widely popular Nook Color. Unassumingly called the Nook Tablet, it uses the same 7″ VividView IPS LCD screen with 1024×600 pixels resolution. It has nearly 180 degrees viewing angles and is fully laminated for minimal reflections and glares.

The Nook Tablet uses the Nook Color body, but has a completely different core – a TI OMAP 4430 chipset with a 1GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor, a PowerVR SGX540 GPU and 1GB RAM. The internal storage is 16GB, expandable via microSD card slot. The new hardware means that HD video playback is easily possible with the Nook tablet. Read more »

Nokia N8 has become available in bronze color, but Nokia somehow missed to announce it. A few months back, the Finns were eager to introduce a choice of novel colors for the N8, and there were even some polls on the matter.

Now we get the N8 in bronze (which is quite brownish, if you ask me). Unfortunately, it is not sure whether the bronze version will hit the stores near you. Read more »

Motorola Mobility is about to cut 800 jobs in order to incur $31 million – $4 million of which are for closing facilities.

Motorola has reported $32 million loss for the past quarter, which is still better than the $56 million loss in the previous one. Read more »
