With all the new gadgets at CES taking our attention, we missed a nice little update for Android that Google unveiled. Google Search received an update yesterday that brings some speed improvements and novelties to Android 2.2 (Froyo), 2.3 (Gingerbread) and 3.x (Honeycomb).

The new features include search suggestions (where Google completes your search with logical results), a refreshed look, suggestions grouping by type and local-specific results for countries with Google domains. Read more »

The OnLive Desktop app is now available for download over at the App Store for free. The app is an iPad exclusive and gives you access to a copy of Windows 7 with Word, Excel and PowerPoint plus 2 GB of free cloud storage.

DeviceFidelity and SpringCard have launched the moneto NFC-enabled MicroSD card for Android smartphones and NFC-enabled case for iPhone. Those allow you to add NFC capabilities to your regular Android smartphone or iPhone and use services like MasterCard’s PayPass.

The moneto MicroSD is storage-less and will set you back $30 while the iPhone case will cost $79.95 with a preloaded $10. Read more »

Google aims to make search results more personal with the new Your World add-ons, which displays individual search results, depending on your likes and the likes of those in your circles.

Google introduced personal results, profiles in search and also people and pages. Personal Results puts emphasis on stuff that has been shared with you or the ones around you on Google+. So for instance if you’ve ever wanted to search Google for pictures you’ve shared via Google+ you can now see them in your results. Read more »

In the midst of all the super phones we’re eagerly watching pop out of every manufacturer’s hat, it’s nice to take a little breather by enjoying some of the cool gadgets that play the sidekick role.

If you remember the Sony Ericsson LiveView you’d know that it was an Android-driven wristwatch of sorts that could show you notifications, wake you up and let you control your smartphone without taking it out of your backpack. This just in from the USB standards setting organization – USB 3.0 should begin rolling out to smartphones and tablets before the end of this year or early next year.

Now don’t expect to see full-sized USB ports on your next smartphone – the upgrade should be in the form of USB 3.0-supporting microUSB ports to meet the demands of thin industrial design. Read more »

The Angry Birds game is among the most popular, if not the most popular, games in the smartphone gaming atmosphere. It’s available on iOS, Android, WebOS, Symbian, PC and now Bada OS.

The addition has been made today and the game is free to download on Wave S8600 3.That’s the only Bada phone currently supported but the requirement is to have Bada 2.0 preinstalled so we guess that other Wave devices will follow suit. Read more »

We all know what Angry Birds is, right? Well if you don’t, chances are you’ve never owned a smartphone in your life or something. Anyway, the next Angry Birds seasons update is on its way to mobile OS platforms and is scheduled for this January.

The theme of the next Seasons chapter is Chinese in origin, which isn’t exactly the first we’ve seen. We’re guessing it will be connected somehow with the fact that Chinese New Year is celebrated on January 23 this year. Read more »

It has been sudo-confirmed by a number of sources close to the situation that Apple will be holding a media event at the end of January in the big Apple.

It’s unlikely that an iPad version will make its way to the masses so early and the event will not include any iTVs or any kind of hardware at all, which leaves software – most likely iBooks, iAds and the likes. Read more »

Facebook announced its Timeline feature back in September at the f8 conference and today it’s ready and available for everyone (globally) to enable, try out under cover and, finally, publish to Facebook contacts.

Timeline replaces your profile page with a reworked new one, focused on your entire Facebook activity divided into years starting with your first ever birthday. Read more »

Flipboard is a digital magazine-like application that combines all of your Facebook, Twitter, website news, articles, photos and more into one live feed for simple (and gorgeous) browsing from one dedicated place. It used to be an iPad exclusive up until the other day when Flipboard launched a version for the iPhone too and we thought we’d take it for a spin and do a little impromptu review of it.

Once the app launched yesterday things went seriously wrong and Flipboard’s servers were overwhelmed by the incredible demand. Today Flipboard updated the app and things started working again. Citing sources close to Microsoft, TheNextWeb, claims that the Windows 8 public beta is set for release in February 2012.

There’s nothing set in stone so, you know, don’t hold your breath until we hear something official. Still it doesn’t seem that unlikely as Windows 8 is expected in 2012 anyway and the MWC 2012 is a big event, a fitting place for presenting a converged desktop/mobile OS. The next iteration of Microsoft’s OS will be the first to be designed to work on both desktops and mobile devices like tablets. Read more »

YouTube received a more polished design yesterday that focuses the user’s attention on the channels he/she follows and adds a video feed that reminds slightly of a twitter feed. The new homepage consists of a predominating gray background, bigger video thumbnails and a cleaner video watch page.

The redesign comes with a fresh homepage that has a dedicated channel bar on the left, displaying the ones you’re subscribed to, trending, popular, music-oriented and entertainment ones, and ones that YouTube suggests to you based on your viewing activity. Read more »
