Samsung Pay went official with the unveil of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge and recent report in Korean media suggests the company will employ unusual tactics to promote its usage. Unlike its competitors, Samsung will not charge any fees for transactions made with Pay in South Korea.

A much-appreciated feature of Samsung’s smartphone lineup, the user-replaceable battery, has been sacrificed in the recently announced Galaxy S6 / S6 edge pair for the benefit of premium build. It’s not all lost, however, and with the right tools and attitude the cell can be substituted.

Samsung is going through some rougher times than it’s used to with sales last year falling 9.8%. According to an audit report, Samsung Electronics will be increasing its research and development (R&D) budget around 7.4% to KRW 15.3 trillion, that is $13.8 billion.

The company will be spending over a billion dollars a month for R&D this year. Another way to look at it, 7.4% of sales go to R&D. That’s the most Samsung had ever spent on developing new products. Read more »

Apple announced Apple Pay last year, which allows you to use the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus with compatible payment systems wirelessly and without using traditional payment systems. The company announced the system is coming to the Apple Watch as well but didn’t quite go into many details.

Google has updated its Sheets, Slides and Docs iOS apps with a feature that was previously only available in the web UI. Dubbed Make a copy, the feature allows you to make a copy of a spreadsheet, presentation, or document, depending on the app you’re using.

In addition, the update brings the ability to copy links to the device’s clipboard. There is also a new accessibility settings menu which appears within Slides and Sheets apps when VoiceOver is enabled in Settings. Private taxi service Uber has suspended its ride-sharing service – UberX in Seoul, South Korea. This call was made to favor the South Korea’s homegrown taxi-booking app set to arrive in coming months.

Government of South Korea has been working on a service to help its citizens take services of licensed operators and noted that Uber was running unregistered private taxis and rented vehicles, which was illegal under South Korean law. Read more »

Google PDF Viewer is the latest addition to what can definitely be considered Google’s office suite for Android. The application is, like the name suggests, nothing more than a lightweight PDF viewer. Now, you might be saying to yourself – “Why would I need that, Google Drive has one built-in”. And you would be absolutely true. But there is still a reason for the app to exist and a very good one.

You might remember, that a few days ago we reported on one of Google’s new Android endeavors – Android for Work. The project’s goal is to make your personal Android device much more organized and convenient to use both for work and outside the office. The idea is to have a separate set of applications that are dedicated to your business and are separate from your main apps.
