Flipboard first made an appearance on Android exclusively on the Galaxy S III through a partnership with Samsung. Soon after that they released a beta for other Android phones to those who had signed up on their websites.

After a couple of months of beta testing, the final build of the app is now available on the Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore and the Barnes & Noble Nook store. On the Galaxy S III in the US, the app will come pre-installed from all the carriers. Read more »

Nintendo has announced a brand new version of its portable gaming console, called the Nintendo 3DS XL. The name makes it sound like a bigger version of the existing Nintendo 3DS, and that’s because it is.

The new 3DS XL has a 4.88-inch display compared to the 3.53-inch display on the 3DS and uses the same stereoscopic 3D wizardry found on its smaller sibling that lets you view 3D content without using any kind of glasses. Read more »

We’ve had the Huawei Ascend P1 in our office long enough to run the battery tests. Since we couldn’t find official battery life numbers on Huawei’s website, this is our first look at how long the 1670mAh battery lasts.

Google Maps is a great digital map to have on the go. But when you are abroad, or at a place without a proper coverage, you are toast. Google already promised us offline maps on Android but how would you like to know that you can get offline maps easily right this very moment?

The Labs section of Google Maps has several interesting experimental features and one of them allows you to cache maps on your Android device. It’s called Pre-cache map area and works just as the title suggests.

Yesterday, Microsoft announced the newest version of their mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8. But while it’s a solid upgrade over the current Windows Phone 7.5, those who own the current devices have been left in the lurch, with just the new homescreen and a couple of minor features being offered as part of the Windows Phone 7.8 update.

Naturally, the people are upset about it, since companies like Nokia were launching their flagship products like the Lumia 900 based on Windows Phone 7.5 not too long ago and people bought these thinking that they will be upgraded to Windows Phone 8 in future and get all the new features. Gameloft has released the iOS version of the next game in their Asphalt series, Asphalt 7: Heat. We first spotted this game in a press image for the Galaxy S III but ironically it ended up on iOS first, as they usually do.

Asphalt 7: Heat is a street racing gamed much like it’s predecessors. Microsoft unveiled some pretty major revamp of their mobile phone OS. They are not simply upgrading it, they are rather bringing their Windows 8 tech to mobile phones. Regular Windows computer developers will be able really easily to port their applications and games to the mobile platform.

At the Windows Phone Summit which ended just moments ago, Microsoft announced the WP Marketplace has now crossed the 100,000 apps mark.

Android users based in Europe will finally get access to Amazon’s Appstore. The company announced today its expansion plans for the old continent and while they are not massive, it’s a decent start.

The Amazon Appstore will launch in France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom this summer. Developers are also encouraged to start certifying their apps for distribution in those countries. Read more »

Nuance, the company that acquired Swype last year, has launched a new beta version of the popular text input method.

The new Swype Beta for Android features a 4-in-1 keyboard and now supports voice as well as touch inputs . You can now draw letters one by one or just tap it, like on classic keyboard. The Dragon voice engine takes care of voice inputs. Read more »

Flipboard, the social and news aggregation app, is set to receive Google+ integration as Google announced a new partnership with its developer. The deal includes the launch of a new API specially formulated to write content for Flipboard.

Soon, Flipboard will be able to show your Google+ stream alongside your Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as news and RSS feeds. Read more »
