Mozilla has just announced the release of the Firefox OS 1.1. The latest version of the open source OS brings a lot of new features and improvements that were missing on the initial release.

The most notable new feature is the new adaptive app search. It’s placed prominently at the front and center of the Firefox OS 1.1 and returns a list of web apps and sites based on the search query. Read more »

Android-powered consoles are a growing niche – the Ouya made a huge splash with its record-breaking Kickstarter campaign, but MadCatz is looking to dethrone it as the best Android console with its new M.O.J.O. console.

Twitter updated its Windows Phone app and along with some useful new features is a hidden surprise – a Vine app. The new Twitter app makes reading tweets easier – you can set it to show tweets on the lockscreen and also pin keyword searches to the homescreen.

The smartwatch is a relatively new market niche, but seeing the interest it has been getting lately, it will certainly expand quite rapidly in the next few years. And Samsung, being one of the world leaders in smart tech, certainly wants to be a part of that expansion. The Galaxy Gear smartwatch is built around the idea of being an extension of your smartphone and not the sole star of the show. Currently, as of its launch, the Galaxy Gear only supports the Galaxy Note 3 and 10.1, which is limiting its reach quite severely, but Samsung promises to add more devices to the list in the next few months.

Instead of going all sci-fi with the Galaxy Gear, Samsung decided to take the logical path. The smartwatch can help you unlock your smartphone, acts as a fitness accessory, snap a photo or two and mainly, aid you in those cases when your phablet is out of reach or the circumstances just don’t allow you to operate it. In case the regular Leica M camera with its $6,950 price tag is a tad too plain for you, I have some great news. The storied German photo equipment manufacturer has teamed up with Apple’s designer extraordinaire Jony Ive and Marc Newson to produce a one of a kind Leica M, which will be auctioned off by Sotheby’s in New York on November 23 this year.

The unique Leica M for (RED) is expected to sell for somewhere in the vicinity of $500,000 and $750,000 at the auction. Read more »

Google has teamed up with HP to deliver the latest Chromebook, this one sporting an 11″ IPS display of 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, an Exynos 5250 (Exynos 5 Dual) with two Cortex-A15 cores inside and, naturally, Chrome OS. The notebook weighs only 1.04 kg (2.3 pounds).

The little portable computer sports two main colors – black and white – and comes with a variety of accents, emulating Google’s look – green, blue, red and yellow. The device sports a full-sized chicklet keyboard with speakers around it and no moving parts like a fan or hard drive so the device will be very quiet and, hopefully, not too hot. The device will be available in the US starting today at Google Play, Amazon and BestBuy for $279 in Wi-Fi-only flavor. There is going to be an LTE version soon, but no exact date or pricing have been provided. Read more »

Apple has reported acquired Cue, a personal assistant app that was formerly known as Greplin. According to a report from AppleInsider, the Cupertino giant has bought the startup for a price tag of $35-$45 million.

In the meantime, Cue has announced that its service will be shutting down and will no longer be available to consumers. All the Cue Premium users will receive a refund, which can be claimed through the iTunes or the company’s website. Read more »

Officially iTunes Radio music streaming service is available only in the US. This is not exactly true though, as it is actually available for US iTunes accounts, but is not limited by the US borders. You can actually create a free US iTunes account and listen iTunes Radio anywhere in the world.

The latest report by Bloomberg suggests Apple is going to roll out the service in even more regional iTunes stores early next year. Read more »

Skype has launched an update for its Android app today bringing it to version 4.4. The main thing the company has reworked is the tablet interface, which now focuses on conversations.

The user interface made specially for tablets now displays the user’s most recent calls and chats. However, looks aren’t the only thing that has been improved, as the latest version of Skype also boasts significant performance boost. Read more »

A new photo of the Nokia Lumia 2520 Windows RT tablet indicates that the rumored tablet will follow in the footsteps of the Microsoft Surface tablet and have a kickstand on its back. The image is low quality and doesn’t even show the whole tablet, so trust it at your own risk.

The Lumia 2520 has leaked before – an alleged photo of the Verizon-branded version didn’t show any trace of a kickstand, while the FCC diagrams revealed almost nothing but the beveled edges. Read more »

Last year Nikon launched the D600, a full-frame DSLR with a pricetag that didn’t require you to sell your kids to be able to afford it. Now, they have launched the new D610, that features some minor improvements over its predecessor.

One of the new features is a quiet, continuous shutter mode, that allows photographers to shoot discreetly at 3fps in burst mode. Nikon has also improved the white balance on the D610 over its predecessor and it now captures more natural colors than before. Lastly, the speed and performance has also been improved and the D610 is now faster, allowing it to capture at around 6fps in burst mode. Read more »

One of the major complaints with the Hangouts app on Android is that it doesn’t integrate with the other built-in messaging apps on Android. This leaves you with not one but three messaging apps when you first start the device, Hangouts, Google+ Messenger and the standard Messages app for SMS and MMS.

While the jury is still out on why Google needs both Hangouts and Google+ Messenger app since they both essentially do the same, a lot of people have suggested Google integrate Messages with Hangouts (the way SMS, MMS and iMessages are integrated in a single app on iOS or Facebook chat and SMS are integrated on Windows Phone).
