Samsung put out a sweet AMOLED-packing tablet in 2011 but, disappointingly for AMOLED fans, hasn’t produced a sequel yet. The wait may be coming to an end – according to Korean publication ETNews Samsung Display will start mass production of tablet AMOLED screens next month.
According to the report, the display will be 10.5″ big and pack QHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440).
Olympus has announced three new and very different cameras. The first is the OM-D E-M10, the company’s newest micro four-thirds camera. The The E-M10 is a smaller version of the previously announced E-M5 and retains many of its predecessor’s features.
The E-M10 uses the same 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor as on the E-M1 and the E-M5 and a TruePic VII image processor. The E-M10 loses the 5-axis image stabilization on the E-M5 for a 3-axis system but gains a built-in flash instead. The E-M10 also has built-in Wi-Fi, 3.0-inch touchscreen, electronic viewfinder, 8fps burst mode and HD movie recording, all in a compact metal body.
NVIDIA TegraZone got treated to a major update which expanded its availability to non-Tegra devices. Version 2.9.0 of the app is currently available to download in the Google Play Store for all devices running Android 2.2 and up.
It must be pointed that the updated app does not make Tegra-enhanced game playable to non-NVIDIA devices.
For those of you who find snapping photos with a tablet a tad too subtle, I have some great news! Sony has a tablet attachment for its QX10/QX100 duo of lens-style cameras coming your way.
Carrying the model number SPA-TA1, the tablet attachment is set to launch in Japan in the beginning of April.
The Mobile World Conference is fast approaching, and Samsung has some titillating news about the displays on their future devices.
The Korean Manufacturer mentioned that they’re preparing a smartphone with a QHD AMOLED screen (2560 x 1440 resolution). Some believe that this will be the display on the Galaxy S5, but it’s all speculation at this point. Their other announcement is what’s really intriguing, however.
Fujifilm has premiered the latest member to its X line of cameras – the X-T1. The device is premium-built, highly portable and very advanced. First off it features 80 points of weather sealing so that it’s water and dust resistant and can work up to -10 degrees Celsius. For the sealing to work you’d need to use one of three weather-repellent zoom lenses Fujifilm is releasing this year.
Although lacking a mirror (and thus not counting as a DSLR), the X-T1 has a 16MP APS-C sized sensor and its 2.36m dot OLED electronic viewfinder is said to be the fastest in the world and “almost indistinguishable” from an optical viewfinder thanks to its 0.005s lag-time. The viewfinder also has the “world’s highest magnification (0.77x) for a digital camera” and three modes – Full, which shows a complete view of the scene, Normal which gives the optimum shooting view and Dual, which is designed for manual focus and shows a slit screen of Normal and focus area.
Nintendo is certainly not in the most favorable of positions right now. Following the price cut of its unsuccessful Wii U gaming console, a report by Japanese news outlet Nikkei suggests the company may be looking to expand its business to Android games.
Currently, Nintendo’s strategy is to release self-made games only for its consoles, but not for anyone else’s. The report cites a source that’s previously been accurate about Nintendo’s plans, who claims that in 2014 the Japanese company will release “minigames” for Android phones.
Samsung has confirmed the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Galaxy Note 3 has issues with third-party accessories. The most common non-Samsung accessory used on the Note 3 is the S-View knock-off cases, which stopped working after the firmware upgrade.
Don’t you worry though, Samsung promises to fix this soon via an update.
If you’re planning on buying a Windows-running Nokia device (Windows Phone or Windows RT) or just bought one, you should know that Nokia is offering a free $20 voucher for apps you can redeem in the WP or Windows Store.
Note that the deal ends on January 31 and is limited to one voucher per account.
It seems Samsung is ready to give up on Windows notebooks, if a report by Digitimes is to be believed. According to their sources at a Taiwan-based supply chain, Samsung will no longer release conventional Windows based notebooks from next year.
So will it be dropping out of the notebook business altogether? Not quite. The report also states that Samsung will switch to only making Chromebooks from 2015. Samsung already has one model on sale right now and many more will be coming in future.

Microsoft has renamed its cloud storage service from SkyDrive to OneDrive. This was expected after a UK court found Microsoft infringing British Sky Broadcasting Group trademark last summer.
Microsoft says it chose the OneDrive name because the cloud storage should be the one place where you store all of your pictures, videos, documents and files.
Microsoft has acquired the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games (Unreal Engines, Unreal series, Gears of War series, Infinity Blade series) for an undisclosed amount.
Now that the series is owned by Microsoft, the software giant has assigned the young Black Tusk studio to develop the next generation Gears of War game. Naturally it will be an Xbox One exclusive.
