Spotify now has 15 million paid subscribers

Spotify is undoubtedly one of the biggest revolutions to come to the audio industry ever since Napster was stirring up heat online. With the New Year the music master has a lot to be proud of as it recently announced that it now has 15 million paid subscribers and the whopping 60 million plus active users.

Last November these very same numbers were circling around 10 million paid and 40 million total users, so this represents a huge leap forward and foretells a bright future for the streaming service, provided that legal issues don’t get too severe. Read more »

Both versions of Asus Zenfone 2 benchmarked, put up against 2014 flagships

Since it was announced, the Asus Zenfone 2 has been king of the hill in our popularity ranking. Besides popularity, the new phone is the first to come with 4GB of RAM – provided you get the higher-specced of the two versions. That one comes with an Intel Atom Z3580 with a quad-core CPU clocked at 2.3GHz.

Alleged Xiaomi Mi 5 photo samples leak out just days before its rumoured launch

China’s top smartphone player Xiaomi, which is also the world’s third-largest mobile handset vendor, is expected to launch its next flagship, allegedly dubbed Mi 5, this week. Previous rumors have indicated that the device will sport a 20- or a 16-megapixel rear camera, but some latest leaked photos (see below), which were allegedly taken using the device, suggest otherwise.

According to a report from GizmoChina, which first spotted the pictures, they carry the Xiaomi Mi5 name in their EXIF information, and were taken with a resolution of 4208×3120, which indicates that the device will sport a 13 megapixel camera. Read more »

Celebrating a goal is one of the most joyful moments in football but Francesco Totti took this to a whole new geeky level. He is one of the most popular Italian footballers playing for the local club Roma. Following his second goal in the derby against Lazio, Totti went outside the field to take a selfie with an iPhone 6.

As you’ll see the selfie shows him and the Roma faithfuls from Curva Sud behind him. When asked why he did it, he said that “Although it’s in fashion, I don’t usually take them because I want my private life to stay that way, but this was a special occasion, something to be remembered for a long time.” Read more »

Mediatek is indeed a formidable force in the mobile world. Its chips might not be as impressive as the top-end Nvidia, Samsung and Qualcomm ones, but the Taiwanese manufacturer pretty much dwarfs all competition when it comes to the sheer volume of units it has and can produce. It not only powers the Chinese smartphone and tablet industry, but is responsible for major advancements in the field and has long been at the forefront of processor innovation.

Asus contest lets you win a ZenWatch by making your own watchface

Asus has launched a contest giving fans a chance to create a watchface and see their design feature on the company’s ZenWatch devices, as well as win one of their own. The contest, dubbed Face the Future ASUS ZenWatch Face Design Contest, runs through February 28, and is open to users all over the world.

Selected designs will be awarded under the following categories: Overall Gold Medal, Best Beauty in Design, Best Practical Design, Best Creative Design, Best Student Design Award, and Fan Favorite. In total, 6 ZenWatch devices will be awarded to winners, the company says. Read more »

Falcon Pro developer launches brand new Falcon Pro 3 app

You may remember Falcon Pro as the popular but ill-fated app on the Play Store that had to be pulled by the developer after it hit Twitter’s asinine API limit. The app has since then been available for free from the developer’s website, assuming you could work your way around the little easter egg to unlock and use the app.

The developer has now released a brand new Twitter app called Falcon Pro 3, which despite the name is not an update to the previous app but a new app altogether. The developer has made the app free to download but you will have to pay $3.99 to add the first Twitter account and every subsequent account will cost you $1.99 extra. The developer sayS, “This is the best way I could think of to deal with Twitter limitations and ensure continuous support.” Read more »

Google may release a real-time speech translation on mobile quite soon

A new rumor suggests Google might be unveiling a real-time voice translation system sooner rather than later. Skype already offers a similar functionality as of last month.

Jide Remix Ultra tablet is a Surface clone running Android

Jide, a company founded by three ex-Google employees, have come up with a new Android-based tablet that is a straight-up clone of the Microsoft Surface.

The Remix Ultra tablet has a 11.6-inch 1080p display, unnamed NVIDIA 4+1 processor, and 2GB of RAM. It has a similar design to the Surface, with a kickstand at the back and a detachable keyboard that connects magnetically. Read more »

With over 170,000 attendees, CES 2015 becomes the largest show in history

This year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that took place in Las Vegas broke all records to become the largest show in history, according to a VentureBeat report. The event witnessed a total of over 170,000 attendees (of which over 45,000 were from outside the US) compared to around 160,000 a year ago.

“This CES vastly exceeded our expectations. The show inspired and likely gave almost every attendee a sense that innovation will provide solutions to a range of global issues from the environment and agriculture to transportation, health and safety,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). AccuWeather now has Android Wear support

The AccuWeather app for Android has received an update which enables it to work on Android Wear smartwatches. The update is currently undergoing a phased rollout, so if you have the app and don’t yet have the new version, it should make its way to you within a few days.

AccuWeather won’t simply show you weather notifications on Android Wear. Instead, it has full support for the wearable platform. Read more »

Apple raises the App Store minimum price

Apple has raised the minimum price for apps in the App Store. Apple announced the upcoming change back in December and it now applies for all EU countries and Canada.
