Samsung releases a teaser video for CES 2013, leaves us wondering what to expect

Samsung loves to release teaser videos before major announcement events, and CES 2013 is no different. The company has launched an 18-second trailer entitled “Get Ready”, which aims to get you excited about what’ll be in store for you.

Samsung opened its first Samsung Mobile Store in Paris, France on December 1. It’s dedicated to mobile devices only and offers a similar experience and support as the Apple’s Retail Stores.

The store spreads to 170 square meters and you can find and try every one of the latest Samsung’s smartphones, players, slates, portable cameras and notebooks. Read more »

SMS celebrates its 20 year anniversary today

SMS messages turn 20 years old today and while the cell network technologies have changed, the usefulness of those 160 character texts hasn’t diminished. If anything it has increased – there are 8 trillion (yes, with a t) texts being sent each year.

Twenty years ago on this date, the first SMS message was sent – the message read ‘Merry Christmas’, typed on a computer by Neil Papworth and sent over the Vodafone network to one of its employees, Richard Jarvis, who received it on an Orbitel 901 phone. Read more »

Xiaomi is working on a $64 Android-based set-top box called MiBox

Xiaomi is a young company that made a name for itself with affordable, feature-rich Android phones but is branching out now. Its new product is called the Xiaomi MiBox, an Android-based set-top box.

Typically for Xiaomi, the MiBox is priced quite attractively – $64 (RMB 399). Unfortunately, the company is yet to expand its availability beyond China. Read more »

UK court orders Apple to pay for Samsung’s legal fees on an indemnity basis

Apple just suffered another setback in its court war against Samsung in the UK. After the Cupertino-based company was ordered to issue a statement saying Samsung did not infringe the design patents, the company is now forced to pay Samsung’s legal fees on an indemnity basis.

As you might remember, Apple wrote what the court ordered them to say, but added that other courts around the world did not agree with the UK court’s decision. As expected, Apple was ordered to retract this statement and issue a new one. Read more »

Apple updates its UK homepage with a new statement, admits the first was inacurate

Just as the UK Court ordered, Apple has now put a proper statement on the bottom of its UK homepage saying (in exactly 11pt font) that the previous statement didn’t comply with the order the court had issued.

There’s also a link which takes you to the new page, where Apple states that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Tab 8.9 and Tab 7.7 didn’t infringe on Apple’s design patents. Read more »

UK Court slams Apple for the “Samsung/Apple UK judgement” text, orders changes to be made in 48 hours

Following the UK Court of Appeal ruling, Apple had to put a clear statement on its website saying that Samsung didn’t infringe on the iPad patents. And Apple did, but in a way that wasn’t what the judges really had in mind.

According to the official ruling, the guys from Cupertino had to clearly state on their UK website that “Samsung didn’t copy” the company’s designs. Instead, Apple posted a few paragraphs explaining in long how despite the UK’s ruling, courts in the US and Germany acknowledged that Samsung did infringe the company’s highly popular tablet. Today Apple executed the UK’s High Court order that ruled the company should acknowledge that Samsung didn’t copy the iPad’s design in its Galaxy Tab slates.
