Android 4.2.2 will be the last update for Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 lineup. The slates have started their lifecycle on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, then were updated up to 4.1 Jelly Bean and now they will be getting their last major firmware upgrade with the 4.2.2 version.

Sony is about to launch the Xperia Tablet Z in mid-April worldwide. The slate is going to be available in three flavors – 16GB Wi-Fi only, 32GB Wi-Fi only and 16GB with LTE.

According to a survey by Strategy Analytics which was gathered by data collected last fall Apple’s iCloud is the most popular cloud service in the US.

27% of those surveyed who use a cloud service have tried iCloud in US with Dropbox and Amazon Cloud Drive in second and third with 17& and 15% respectively. Read more »

The official online Sony store in the UK is now taking pre-orders for the Wi-Fi-only version of the Xperia Tablet Z. The 16GB model is available only in black color (for now) and costs £399.

Google has been releasing some amazing ads lately, especially for their Nexus devices. And the latest ad for the Nexus 10 takes things up a notch.

The ad shows a couple about to have a baby. The focus of the ad is on the ‘shareability’ of the Nexus 10, and how you can have multiple user accounts on the tablet, use it for reading, watching movies, social networking, video calling and how two can people do all this from a single device. Microsoft’s Surface tablets have added a new dimension to the way we look at tablets. The Surface series of Windows tablets, which can also function as a laptop with a help of a dock has further reduced the gap between tablets and laptops.

According to a few recent reports, Microsoft has sold more than 1.5 million units of the Surface tablets. The Windows giant has managed to sell about 400,000 Surface Pro units and just over a million units of Surface RT tablets. Read more »

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 has been exclusive to Amazon US ever since it was released last September. Fortunately, today Amazon is finally ready to expand the tablet’s availability. As of today, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is available at Amazon in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan.

Another positive change is that the US prices are lower now, down to $269 (16GB) and $300 (32GB). In Europe, the tablet costs €269 and €299. All quoted prices are only valid under Amazon’s Special Offers program. Read more »

We are no strangers to ridiculously large tablets. We saw a few at CES, including a particularly enormous 20-inch Panasonic tablet. Although one would assume this is just some quirky thing that would go away if you don’t pay attention to it, it seems OEMs aren’t quite willing to let go of it.

Dell is the latest to join the ranks of these comically large tablets (at this point they are more tables than tablets). Unlike others, however, Dell has made slightly more effort to justify the size of this device, by making it turn into an All-in-One at a pinch. Read more »

ASUS has been remarkably quick in the past year or so in rolling out Android updates for its devices. Now the Taiwanese company has become the first to roll out the elusive Android 4.2 update for its Transformer Pad TF300T tablet.

The update is currently available only in the US but is expected to roll out in other regions in March. The update is said to bring performance improvements and features such as multi-user accounts. Read more »

Archos has announced a big one – tablet, that is. The company has unveiled the FamilyPad 2. It sports a 13.3″ 1280 x 800 screen, a dual-core Cortex-A9 processor with quad-core GPU and a reasonable price tag of €299. It will be launching in Europe “very soon”.

The new Microsoft Surface devices and the recent iPad generations all rate very poorly amongst other tablets on the list, due in large part to the adhesive used on the devices, which renders them easily breakable while trying to take apart. Read more »

Samsung today announced the South West Asian version of the Galaxy Note 8.0 – and it’s called the Galaxy Note 510. The reason for renaming the 8″ slate is still mysterious.
