Opera mobile and mini browsers reach over 100 million users, new ones coming at MWC 2011

According to Opera’s State of the Web report, Opera Mini has about 90.4 million users every month, while the Opera Mobile handles approximately 15 million more. That makes for a total of 105 million people, which is a really impressive number.

Android 2.3.3 announced, brings some new NFC capabilities along

Hold your excitement, this is not the next Android version. The 2.3.3 is a minor feature update adding new NFC APIs for developers that we are going to see implemented in the NFC-enabled apps and devices later.

NFC (short for Near Field Communication) is a technology that’s been implemented in several mobile phones by Nokia through the years, but it seems it will only take off in 2011 as some new, and hopefully popular smartphones get support for it.

Google releases their awesome Google Translate as an app for the iPhone

Google has just released their official Google Translate a separate translate app for the Apple’s iOS. It’s a must have one for quick translations on the go, so please, open your AppStore and take it. You can even speak aloud what you want translated.

The new Google Translate app is much similar to the recently updated Android one. It supports both voice and text input as well as voice and text translations. But the thing that surprised me the most is the incredible accuracy. Read more »

Microsoft releasing copy-and-paste feature to developers

The Copy & paste feature has been made available to developers according to Microsoft’s Director of Developer Relations, Brandon Watson. He also mentioned that the Windows Phone Developer tools are close to reaching the 1 million download mark. Impressive numbers, which point out that new apps for the platform should be rolling out at a great pace.

Remote control your Samsung HDTV with the official app for the Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab

Samsung just released the promised HDTV remote control application for its high-end Android devices – the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab.

The app requires Android 2.1 Eclair and either the Galaxy S or Tab need to be hooked up on the same wireless network as the TV set. Yeah, you need one of those connected HDTV sets. Here are some screenshots of the two apps. Read more »

Angry birds gets a 15-level worth of an update, we get a sneak peak at Valentine’s Day edition

Angry Birds needs no introduction, so let’s just cut to the chase – Rovio has just released an update to the game. There are some 15 new levels plus 15 soon-to-come levels. The update is not the rumored St. Valentine’s day edition. But we have new news on that last one too. We found a series of screenshots that show what this new romantic level pack will look like.

Also today is one of the biggest Sundays in the USA NFL season – the Super Bowl. And if there’s one thing this sports event is famous for (besides the game itself), it’s the ads. Watched by millions of Americans each year, the Super Bowl advertisements are special and Rovio Mobile will air their Angry Birds Rio commercial today too. Read more »

Android 3.0 Honeycomb is now official, no smartphone support on the horizon [UPDATED]

Google just went through their dedicated Andoird event, officially announcing and showcasing Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Android is definitely branching in two directions and Honeycomb won’t be available for smartphones.

Mozilla releases an upgraded mobile Firefox for Android and Maemo, now speedier

Today Mozilla announced the availability of a new version of the mobile Firefox. Compatible with Android and Maemo the new version of the app is still in beta but promises to improve start-up and page load times as well as responsiveness to panning and zooming.

Two billion people use the Internet, half of the planet – mobile phones

Computers, Internet and mobile phones – those are an indispensable part of our modern lives. We are so dependent on the technology that even the slightest tech problems (remember Skype blackout?) can cause damage on economics, transport, even life.

The last decade has been pretty intense technically. More than two billion people are using the Internet compared to the 400 million ten years ago. The cellphone subscriptions have also risen to 5 billion – five times more compared to the 1 billion subscriptions in year 2000, according to the International Telecommunication Union.

Angry Birds teams up with the movie Rio, launches Angry Birds Rio in March

Rovio Mobile, the creators of everybody’s favorite Angry Birds smartphone game announced in a tweet that they have joined forces with Twentieth Century Fox to release a new flock of angry birds that is going to hit your smartphone or tablet some time in March.

Google gives the world a taste of Honeycomb on 2 February

February 2nd is the date we’ve been waiting for. Google is holding a special Android event in its Californian headquarters about the next Android installment – the Honeycomb, the Android ecosystem and some hands-on demos.

Google showed off the Honeycomb on numerous occasions, but it’s never done an official presentation, only teasers. It seems the time has finally come.

HP and Palm to announce something big, something small and even more on 9 February

Ever since HP bought Palm I have been itching to find out how the webOS would evolve and in what devices would it be featured next. We just got hold of a Palm UK newsletter confirming that the press event on 9 February is about the latest and greatest HP-slash-Palm devices and even more.

Earlier this month HP teased its upcoming press event is going to be about the WebOS. But there was no word of Palm. It’s almost sure now that on 9 February they are going to announce a tablet, a smartphone along with that update of the webOS.
