Apple announced that iOS 5 will be coming to i-devices everywhere by this fall. They failed to mention any access to public API’s for developers to toy with in time for summer app updates to take advantage of the new Notifications Center. However that hasn’t stopped some developers and hackers from already making it happen.

It seems there is one more thing that was not demoed in the iOS 5 keynote at WWDC 2011, nor was included in the developer beta and that one more thing is Nuance integration in iOS 5.
What this means is that iOS 5 may have speech-to-text input built-in, just like Android 2.1 and above devices. Now iOS does have some voice input capability, introduced by iOS 4 but it can only be used for certain functions, such as making calls or playing a track and even that is powered by Nuance. The first iOS 5 beta launched soon after the official announcement at the Apple’s WWDC. As usual, it’s available for developers only and unless you are one or you managed to add your iGadget UDID into a developer’s account, then you can’t have it.

When Google announced the Music Beta service at the I/O conference, it was only limited to those in the United States. However, it seems now it has started rolling out in other countries as well.
Reports are coming in from Europe from people who have successfully managed to install the Music Beta application on their Android devices. The application, along with Google Books, is being pushed to the device automatically. Read more »
It doesn’t take a genius to note that thus far the Windows 8 tech demos we’ve seen have had a big emphasis on touch interface and share a heck of a lot with Windows Phone’s Metro UI. What is more Windows 8 will almost certainly be hitting a host of tablets as well as the next generation of desktops and laptops.
Those such as ARM have already demoed a few devices with some iteration of Windows 8 but what about Microsoft stamping their own branding on a tablet. Read more »
I must admit, I wasn’t impressed by the Nintendo Wii U when it was announced a couple of days back at the E3 2011. And the way Nintendo’s shares are going down, neither is anyone else. And now Firemint, the company that created the popular iOS game Real Racing 2 HD will be bringing wireless FullHD gaming over AirPlay to your TV screen, a feature that will kick devices like the Wii U squarely in the nuts.
Now currently, Real Racing 2 HD is able to stream 1080p output from an iPad 2 to a TV screen through the HDMI connection but with iOS 5 developers will be able to stream the same output wirelessly to an Apple TV using the new AirPlay Mirroring function in iOS 5. Read more »
Okay, so that’s not really the reason they cited but the bottom line is that those using bada handsets that have a WQVGA resolution display (that’s 240 x 400) will not be getting the bada 1.2 update.
The talk of the day is still Apple’s keynote and the unveiling of iOS 5. It brought along many changes, most of which good ones but this geek can’t help but wonder – weren’t those things already available?
Much like some old iPhone ads by Apple itself, when somebody asked me how can I enable SMS delivery reports (you know as a joke that the iPhone can’t) I’d say – “There’s an app for that”. I used to say this about many things – like the missing DivX and XviD support too. And there is an app for most things we’d want to do with our iPhones. Google Maps is in league with some transit agencies in the US and Spain and Italy to give its users live updates and time tables right there on your PC or mobile device. They will tell you how long until your bus (train, etc.) will arrive at your stop.
This is actually pretty cool and is already available with no updates whatsoever for desktop browsers and Android smartphones. The currently covered cities are Turin (Italy), Madrid, Boston, San Francisco, San Diego, Portland and Google says that’s just the beginning. Read more »
Nokia has just announced an update for their Drop app for Symbian smartphones. Initially used for pushing images and URLs to your smartphone, Nokia Drop now also gains support for sending map views and locations and RSS feeds from your computer to your smartphone.
The RSS feeds could be sent to both the Nokia reader app on your Symbian smartphone and its native browser, while the map views and locations will be pushed to the OVI maps app. Read more »

Angry Birds Rio will soon receive an update to bring fans its newest episode – The Rio Carnival. It’s already available at the iTunes App Store for iOS and will soon be online at the Amazon Appstore for Android.

Looks like someone’s not happy with the new iOS 5. Following Apple’s keynote where they announced the next version of iOS, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore, director of the Windows Phone program, decided to use Twitter to vent his feelings about the new update.
In a couple of tweets that broke the needle on our sarcasm meter, Belfiore said that he was “flattered” that lots of great ideas from Windows Phone 7 made it over to iOS 5. Read more »
RIM have today issued the v1.0.5 update for their Tablet OS, which last time I checked covered the BlackBerry PlayBook and not much else. What the update brings is a host of welcome additions to PlayBook users and the screens below should give you a brief idea of how this affects the user experience.
For starters, the PlayBook friendly Facebook application now comes included in the update and within it you can now upload videos and delete messages alongside the fact that enhancements have been made to Facebook Search, Pages and the News Feed. Read more »

The mobile gaming powerhouse released a multitude of trailers for upcoming video games including “9mm”, and the Unreal engine powered “March of Heroes”. Now, I have yet another on for you – it is called “Silent Ops” and, like the above mentioned two games, will come in Android or iOS flavor.
