Apple has acquired the indoor navigation company WifiSLAM. The Cupertino giant paid $20 million for the two-year old Silicon Valley startup.

WifiSLAM, as its name mildly suggests, has developed an indoor location method based on Wi-Fi signals coming from routers in the building. Read more »

So it’s not a pipe dream after all – Google Now for iOS may even be in the works. At the Big Tent summit in India Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt was asked point blank when could we see Google Now on the iPhone and had this to say – “You’ll need to discuss that with Apple”, “Apple has a policy of approving or disapproving apps that are submitted into its store, and some of them they approve and some of them they don’t,”.

Although skillfully avoiding giving a direct answer to the question Schmidt didn’t dismiss it entirely giving this blogger the idea that just like it did with Gmail, Maps, Drive and Chrome, Google intends to push its Now service over to iOS. Read more »

Samsung has posted the first Galaxy S4 promo video on YouTube. As usual the clips goes through the phone’s design, software and hardware perks, and does so with a catchy background music and a patterned background to match the pattern of the smartphone itself.

In the recent past, Google has been showing a lot of love for Apple’s iOS platform. It makes sense really, considering Google is in the business of advertising and collating user information, so supporting one of the biggest platforms out there is a no-brainer.

Popular cloud-based note taking service Evernote experienced a security breach, where the company confirms it lost information such as usernames, associated email addresses and passwords to the hackers. No data, however, was said to be lost or changed and no payment information was accessed.

Even though the passwords were encrypted, the company is not taking any chances and is requiring users to reset their password before logging in again to their accounts. The company will also be releasing updates to its apps over the next few hours to make the password change process easier. Read more »

Google has now added a second category to the store with the introduction of Google Play Books. You will see the new addition immediately after launching the Play Store app on your Android device. It looks like the last year’s Olympic partnership between Samsung and Visa has worked out well for both sides. Today, the two companies announced a partnership to promote mobile NFC payments worldwide.

Under the terms of the partnership, Samsung will preinstall Visa’s payWave application into its upcoming NFC enabled smartphones, which means that the soon-to-be announced Samsung Galaxy S IV will likely be the first to carry the new tech. Read more »

Maps and Drive have long been one of the staples of Nokia Windows Phone devices, and today they’re being rolled as part of Nokia’s HERE cloud location service.

Also integrated are the Transit and City Lens apps, which allow for quick access to public transit information and nearby POIs in addition to the cartography and navigation features provided by Drive and Maps. However, the services will no longer bear the Nokia branding. Read more »
