Italian luxury brand Caviar has launched a successor of its limited edition Putinphone, and it was only logical since all 44 units of the first one were sold out in just one day. The Putinphone 2, however, sports a titanium back engraved with the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin and 499 units will be made.

Based on the iPhone 5s, the Putinphone 2′s full model name is the Caviar iPhone 5S Ti Supremo Putin. And it costs the cool $3,320 (RUB 119,000). Read more »

It’s been a long time coming, but the latest usage statistics from Net Applications show that iOS has fallen behind Android in terms of total active usage.

Three UK just announced inTouch – an app for Android and iOS that can route your calls and texts over a Wi-Fi network. This isn’t like Skype or Viber, no this is for regular calls and texts that would normally go through the GSM network (they even come out of your monthly plan).

The HTC Desire 616 dual sim is like a smaller version of the Desire 816 but it has an attention-grabbing octa-core processor. And the processor has eight Cortex-A7 cores instead of big.LITTLE architecture.

The Desire 616 has a large screen for a mid-ranger but with 720p resolution it won’t be fighting flagships any time soon. This fits the style of smartphone popular in East Asia – screen size takes precedence over resolution, dual-SIM is a must and the more cores the better. Read more »

The HTC One (E8) is a plastic variant of the HTC One (M8) that retains almost all aspects of the flagship’s premium package but asks significantly lower at retail. The front is still adorned by a 5″ Super LCD3 of 1080p resolution, the chipset is still a Snapdragon 801, the speakers are still stereo BoomSound and the software is still Sense 6 on top of Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Well, this is an odd one. It looks like Flipkart, India’s biggest online retailer, has mistakenly sent people who ordered the new XOLO Win Q900s an Android-running version of the device. To be clear, the XOLO Win Q900s should run Windows Phone 8.1, the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS.

Nokia has set up an interesting project to promote the Lumia 930 in the UK. What seems to be a product of a joint meeting with Greenpeace is actually a giant wall made of potatoes and apples. Why? To charge up a phone.

Few weeks back we talked about Rovio’s upcoming Angry Birds Transformers (sigh) game. Other than telling the game is coming soon, no other details were provided back then.

Rovio has now released a new trailer for the game. Unfortunately, it doesn’t show much either. The CGI trailer shows the red bird that also looks like Optimus Prime fighting bad pigs. He can obviously transform from one form to another. Oddly enough, he also has a pig Transformer fighting alongside him, fighting another pig Transformer. Read more »
